(8,821 posts)Only an utterly benighted racist or a political hack completely mired in self-interest could possibly reject such a carefully reasoned, even-handed and well-intentioned plea to get the work of governing our country done.
Thank you, Mr. President.

But I fear for Social Security and Medicare. That did not sound very supportive for seniors. Obama did not mention our needs. He seemed to be pitting the needs of our children and grandchildren against ours. It doesn't work that way. If we don't have enough to live on, our children support us and that means that cutting our Social Security and Medicare cuts the ability of our children and grandchildren to work for what they need. So in that sense, I think the speech and the point of view is out of balance, and I am very disappointed. I do not trust Obama with regard to the issues of seniors. Not at all.

(3,919 posts)to serve on the bipartisan budget committee will work hard to keep this from happening. the president has said over and over that he will not cut social security and medicare for the disabled and vets. ye, chained cpi is on the table as a possibility - but you can be assured that bernie is opposed to such a thing.
