Related: About this forumHuman Erased From The Earth By Police Officer - Kelly Thomas Case Goes To Trial
Last edited Wed Dec 4, 2013, 02:34 PM - Edit history (1)
The Kelly Thomas beating case of two years ago finally comes to the court in Orange County in California Monday. I'm bringing this up because I think attention needs to be paid to the case where a mentally ill homeless man was basically eliminated by a police officer... and I echo the officer's own words, recorded (thank god) by a security tape, prior to him putting on gloves to attend to this human being... "SEE MY FISTS? THEY'RE GETTING READY TO FUCK YOU UP"
If any words need to be repeated and recorded in the media, it is those words. How is an officer saying those words in ANY way a part of his duty as an officer? How are those words in ANY way a symbol of his approach to a given interaction with a homeless individual.
"SEE MY FISTS? THEY'RE GETTING READY TO FUCK YOU UP."
And no amount of "I'm sorry. I'm sorry dude" from the homeless man which you can see in the video would suffice to make up what that officer wanted to do. To fuck that person up. The video tells the tale. And Kelly Thomas is now dead. Eliminated from this earth. Now tell me that the officer who spoke those words... who tore this person apart... is not liable for the death of the person who's body he tortured and pounded with repeated bashings and clubbings. Tell me that officer is not 100% liable for that person's death. Tell me. Just try and tell me.
Because I, for one, would be in utter disbelief if a jury, (even a jury in conservative Orange County) would find that that officer had nothing to do with the death of a homeless man who was brutally attacked and targeted in entire disregard of their duty as sworn officers OF THE LAW.
Please be attentive to this case. It is important. And thank god there are folks out there being attentive as well. Police brutality by a small segment of law enforcement officers has got to stop, and others in the force who stand by and view it, doing nothing, have got to start intercepting, stopping and controlling the other officers around them who think it within their rights and powers to rub another person from the face of the earth.
"SEE MY FISTS? THEY'RE GETTING READY TO FUCK YOU UP!"
Let those words echo in your mind and consider what that officer was thinking before he brought about the eventual death of another human being. Administered his own kind of justice. A death sentence, upon another human? Do you hear an 'accident' or an intentional attempt to inflict harm upon another human? I hear premeditation. I hear a killing. I hear murder.
Now who will tell the Judge and Jury?
If you think the timing of this case was accident, think again. Who would want to put in the press a violent case of this nature during the holiday season? On Cyber Monday? Not the mainstream media? Not the networks? Not anyone with a stake in holiday big-money advertising?
Hopefully justice will be served for a homeless mentally ill man, who despite repeated apologies and lack of aggression... who was rubbed out. Eliminated by another, under the cover of authority. And for no reason except for the desire to bash up another person up who didn't listen? Who wasn't fit to be here on the planet? Someone who they just wanted to fuck up?
It is time to stand up to the law enforcment bullies who run the departments and walk over fellow officers who might intervene would they not be seen as weak or be threatened with retribution.
IT IS TIME.

(18,644 posts)I read more about this story and how anyone could do that to someone unarmed. I do hope justice will win out on this one.

The only mentally ill in that group were the police.

For a bunch of people whose chosen profession is to fight crime, they are really shitty at fighting crimes that are done in their name by fellow officers and happens right under their very noses.
MrMickeysMom
(20,453 posts)Maybe it's just your opinion, but I honestly don't know that either one of us knows that to be the case.
Do you know many police? Have you ever been on the inside of any local municipality and sat down to talk to these people?
The bigger mystery of how some act as they do is the influence of other "agencies", which have deeper pockets and can help sustain things in town, while exchanging training or other services.
There is always the good cop and bad cop. Based on how they are led by either good cops or bad cops, I can see how we are dealing with some really bad ones.
That doesn't make the majority of them "really shity at fighting crimes that are done in their name" or whatever you meant by that bullshit line.

(23,973 posts)So, yes.
MrMickeysMom
(20,453 posts)You answered this based on your described relationship? THAT is the answer?
I am disheartened by how subjective that statement is. I don't expect you to agree, but I'm blown away an using that as reason for suspecting the majority of men and women to go into law enforcement.
Their profession is being stained
YES
. but just because someone wants to be an officer of the local police force, doesn't indoctrinate them into a den of evil doers
It means that we have so much reform to this nation:
1) The military industrial complex
2) The very nature of law enforcement
They are both mis-managed by infiltration of a much higher caliber who benefit from control of the masses.
That doesn't mean those in the force are part of it. Jeez

(20,453 posts)You're heaving one of your most nasty remarks, aimed at someone's explanation of a problem in law enforcement and our military, tied to the interests most here feel benefit it.
Don't be nasty just because someone speaks truth in response to your nasty remark.
And I dare say that it's gutless to follow it with have a nice day. This is because you obviously aren't, due to my remark.
I pity that attitude. I'm going to alert because you say I am apologist for murders and that is not true.
You could re-think you last remark to avoid this.

(2,149 posts)Was it noticed by colleagues and superiors that this officer had behavior issues? Certainly this is not the first instance of this officer's behavior.
It behooves those in law enforcement to deal with these problem colleagues when issues are noticed. Even better, don't hire them or get rid of them during probation.

You couldn't murder all by yourself? You had to actually say, "Help me!" ???
Every one of those motherfuckers should be stripped of everything connected to pension and enter the system at the state pen (where they can meet their match, plus a thousand).

(12,471 posts)should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. When found guilty, they should serve the maximum sentence. AFAIC, there is one who is guilty of premeditated murder, the rest are guilty of manslaughter.
If they were to get the maximum sentence, it would send a message to police everywhere, that they are not to act in such a violent way, when it is clearly not warranted.

(943 posts)order. they will get paid leave or in home probation. They will never be charged like a premeditated murder. "putting on gloves"
and using the words 'I'm going to" shows PREMEDITATED MURDER. PERIOD.
I remember a case in CT where a cop's boot print was found 'in evidence' on the back of suspect clothing, he was shot in the back. cops thug had history of bulling this black man "because he was dating a white girl' trail records show.
Cop thugs escaped punishment. They escape all the time and so will these 'pack of wolves".
What do people do when they see or encounter a mountain lion, a pack of wolves or any wild animals?
They should do the same when they see a cop..
You would have a better chance of reasoning with a wild grizzly.

(1,917 posts)to be a police officer because he was too smart.
So, I'm guessing the qualification is a diagnosis of Psychopath?
Same thing in Columbia, MO. A cop shoved a guy so hard into a wall, broke his back.
The guy was in a cell, the cop just shoved him, hard. There was video. It was on the news all around.
He was found innocent last month. INNOCENT?
These thugs need to go.

(28,498 posts)Would you feel it necessary to intervene if you believed the cops were going to kill him? The man was already pleading for his life and telling them he couldn't breathe. If you intervened and demanded the cops stop their torture, what would be their response? And what if it became necessary for you to pull your weapon? Or would you be content to stand back and watch the cops kill the man.
It would make for an interesting scenario: SYG laws used to protect or save another person's life from rogue cops.
Demo_Chris
(6,234 posts)Prior to SYG laws a person might have an OBLIGATION to retreat prior to initiating a use of force. And while you might think that common sense would apply, it turns out that overzealous and unscrupulous prosecutors were routinely using this concept to prosecute where it was probably not warranted, and get convictions based on the letter of the law rather than on what common sense dictated. In essence, all a SYG laws says is that IF deadly force is legally justified, then it is justified.
As for your post, none of that occurred in this case, and if it had SYG would have nothing to do with anything you might or might not choose to do.
KansDem
(28,498 posts)I was just musing about how one might intervene to save a life. Could one intervene with, say, an AR-15 to stop the cops from killing this man?
Or are we supposed to "move on" and ignore the pleas from a hapless victim of police brutality?

(1,043 posts)meaningful, independent and continuous psych evaluations, discontinue hiring former military personnel, and require at least a four year degree for police officers. Probably wouldn't have stopped this murder but it would be a step in the right direction overall.

BTW, from Wiki: ...cause of death was "asphyxia caused by mechanical chest compression with blunt cranial-facial injuries sustained during physical altercation with law enforcement." Rackauckas said Thomas died because of the force of the officers on his chest, which made it impossible for him to breathe. This caused Thomas to become unconscious. He then slipped into a coma and died when taken off life support five days later. Rackauckas said the coroner also said the injuries to Thomas' face and his head contributed to his death. Also contributing to his death were brain injuries, facial and rib fractures, and the extensive bruising and abrasions he suffered during the beating,

(18,124 posts)they WILL get that shit beat out of them, which they deserve. That thought gives me some comfort. That poor man. Beaten to death by 'peace' officers???!!! First I read about a 73 year old woman confined in solitary, in one of the for profit prisons because she needed some health care for a problem she had with cancer and started a letter writing campaign. The warden put her in solitary for 34 days. She embezzled some money, that's why she was in prison, but solitary was cruel for demanding health care. Now this. Amerikkka has a cruel and vicious culture that IS NOT getting any better.
