I just don't see how Republicans help themselves with this strategy. Are they simply writing off the states that are moving forward? If so, they are going to lose their Minority Leader in the Senate next year.
And without any constructive alternative, they are telling their own citizens "It is wrong and evil for you to have health care." I just don't see how this works.
I think they have looked at the numbers and decided that the people most affected are below median income, and the Republicans must believe that ether those people don't vote or that if they do vote, they mostly vote Democratic. That may be true. And it may be equally true that their strongest base is already on Medicare -- in the end, this is a play for "see those blacks and illegals over there? They want to take your money to get socialized medicine."
So it really isn't much different from the regular GOP position on everything else.
The question is whether or not Democrats will make Republicans pay a price for this. Dems were pretty weak-kneed during November. Now that we have 2 million people enrolled (1.5M in Medicaid expansion and .5M in exchange policies), it is time for every single Democrat to take this straight at Republicans -- ESPECIALLY in the states where Republicans are erecting these obstacles.
