Some of the Snowden YouTube videos have been blocked,
so I'm reposting this from another source.
These talkingheads don't know what they are talking about, obviously just winging it!

In a two-minute video recorded in Moscow, where Snowden has been granted temporary asylum, he spoke of concerns over surveillance in an age of huge technological advancement.
'We have sensors in our pockets that track us everywhere we go. Think about what this means for the privacy of the average person,' he said.

As a former US Central Intelligence Agency employee, US National Security Agency contractor, and the person behind the biggest security leak in US history, Snowden gives his assessment of the classic bogey model of the Orwellian state as nothing compared to today's surveillance methods.

(39,909 posts)They are the protectors of our Democracy.
No wonder they are hated by the Rich & Powerful,
and their water carriers.
Rampant Government Secrecy and Democracy can not co-exist.
Persecution of Whistle Blowers and Democracy can not co-exist.
Mass surveillance of the citizenry and Democracy can not co-exist.
I hope that I would have the courage to Do-the-Right-Thing in the same situation.
It would be so much easier to just:
do what you are told,
don't ask questions,
don't make any waves,
collect the paycheck,
go to the beach,
drink a 6 pack,
and rationalize it all away with "I got mine, fuck everybody else, this is not MY problem" thinking.
So. Much. Easier.

I heard Snowden's entire speech posted elsewhere on DU last night. It is powerful and compelling. But it appears that thus far, his speech is being silenced.
We are living in a totalitarian state. Our so-called "democracy" is apparently a complete sham.
I guess we have to go to RT to get free news media. That is a shameful turn of events. I remember living in Europe and listening to Radio Free Europe (American broadcasting) and the BBC for the news. It is ironic that Snowden's full speech uninterrupted is not being broadcast on the "free" media in our country. I think Americans need to hear what Snowden has said.
These women are applying the distraction technique to avoid seeing the gorilla in their newsroom.
One of these days they will wake up, feel the chains on their legs and ask themselves what happened: "When did I lose my freedom to speak?"

(4,769 posts)We're the supposed champions of freedom - it is the US government and the newly minted fascists defending the indefensible who are the hypocrites.
Thank you Edward Snowden.
