"Extra's Mario Lopez introduced a question about Katie Couric, who helped torpedo Sarah Palin's 2008 vice presidential bid by asking her what newspapers and magazines she read, by asking Palin if she believed in karma. "I certainly believe that what goes around comes around," Palin said, smiling."

(1,727 posts)Couric got a bunch of credit for subtlely taking down Palin, but I always thought that was total bullshit.
The mainstream media is afraid to take down any in member of the political class who isn't already reeling from some sort of scandal, especially if that member of the political class is on the Right.
In my opinion, Couric and her production team watched the Charlie Gibson segment, and after seeing how fucking ignorant and vacuous Palin is, they decided to do a softball interview and ask her the easiest questions possible so that they would avoid any accusations of liberal bias. Unfortunately, Palin couldn't answer a simple question about what newspapers she reads (because she's obviously never read one), and the rest was history.

(9,350 posts)I agree with you that Katie Couric did not torpedo Palin's chances of being Vice President in 2008. However, I disagree that Tina Fey had anything to do with her downfall. Sarah Palin was the vice presidential candidate on a weak ticket in a bad year for Republicans. So, I think it can be said that George W. Bush and the Republican Party torpedoed her chances of being Vice President by running up the debt and deficit and letting the economy collapse. Also, I think the more non-Republicans learned about her the less they wanted her as Vice President.
I think it is sad that Sarah Palin has been able to get so much out of that interview. It is not Katie Couric's fault that Sarah Palin could not answer a question about what newspapers she read. I would understand Palin being upset if Couric had asked her questions about the GDP of some small unknown African country. I guess someone could make the argument the Vice President does not need to know the GDP of a rarely talked about African country. However, Palin was asked what papers she read. That has to be one of the easiest questions one can be asked.

(48 posts)Since she quit her post in Alaska, Palin hasnt run for public office but still plays the part of politician who calls her constituents fans. What exactly does she do other than essentially proposition her self and image to the highest bidder? Sounds like Sarah is Americas highest paid escort! See how down and dirty shell get for the money at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/06/ecstasy-of-sarah-palin_15.html

(7,875 posts)I wonder if she were offered enough money by some liberal organization to change sides, would she become a crusader for women's rights or the environment? Obviously it would have to be a lot of money. Sarahcorp is a tremendous cash cow, and she'd be giving all that up because the stupid would never take her back after she betrayed them. Dumb as she may be, I bet you'll find she gets a lot smarter when it comes to what side her bread is buttered on, so it would have to be the kind of money where she and her grandkids could retire in opulence.
