Related: About this forumThe surprising story of medical marijuana and pediatric epilepsy: Josh Stanley at TEDxBoulder
TEDxTalks·Published on Oct 14, 2013
Josh will sift through the propaganda, fear and greed encompassing medical marijuana. Recently featured on CNN, Josh and his brothers developed a non-psychotropic strain of marijuana which is drastically reducing seizures for many pediatric epilepsy patients in Colorado. With millions facing life-threatening illnesses, Josh outlines the hurdles needed to effect social change and maps a path toward helping those who desperately need revolutionary medicine.

(27,137 posts)- The truth is slowly coming out. Even now, states are starting to realize that they may begin losing citizens to saner states if they don't act soon.

(36,974 posts)I discovered this site a few months back on a quirk while looking for a recipe on how to make cannabis tincture (Cannabis Tincture). Before that I hadn't known that prior to 1937 there were over 280 cannabis manufacturers in US alone. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing when cannabis was demonized as Reefer Madness and made illegal.
- They were just optimizing the medical field's capitalistic potential......

(2,067 posts)A very interesting video! Yes, I believe I had seen Dr. Sanjay Gupta's show about Charlotte and medical marijuana - or more accurately, medical cannabis, a while ago. But Cannabis has so many other medical and health benefits that aren't even covered in this video, even though they aren't for conditions as serious and life threatening as pediatric epilepsy. In Chinese herbal medicine, the seeds, with their abundant lubricating oils and fatty acids, are a bowel tonic that is especially useful in chronic constipation, especially in the elderly who have dry bowels, as a bulk and lubricant laxative. These same fatty acids have an amazing profile of just about all the health and circulation benefiting omega fatty acids. I have met those who had great problems with arthritis and rheumatism who experienced great relief and even remission from taking Hemp oil. Hemp seeds, which contain not only these nutritious fatty acids but an abundance of high quality, easily digestible and assimilable protein as well, can be found in health food stores. I have seen other videos that were about juicing fresh Cannabis leaves, which is even beneficial in treating cancer. Since heat is needed to make the THC psychoactive, juicing raw Cannabis doesn't get you high.
That's interesting that there were so many manufacturers of drugs made from Cannabis when it was outlawed by reefer madness in 1937. The story I heard was that William Randolph Hearst had had a lot of money invested in a paper making technology (for his newspapers) that made paper from wood pulp, and that just a year previously, a new machine was made that could separate the pulpy hurds of Cannabis from the fibers ( used for textiles, canvas, etc...) quickly and efficiently enough to give serious competition to Hearst's tree pulp. And Cannabis grows so much faster as a renewable resource than do trees. In fact, after the bamboo that I make my pan flutes from, Cannabis is the second fastest growing plant, and quickest producer of biomass, on the planet. Interesting, isn't it? And by the way, with Cannabis being a great antispasmodic, or reliever of cramps and spasms, Queen Victoria took Extractum Cannabinis, or Cannabis extract, for her severe menstrual cramps.

(27,137 posts)...is to corrupt everything for profit, so I'm not surprised in the least at where we are on this issue. It's always been about MONEY. Always.
While cannabis' use prior in the ancient past up to 1937 should have been proof enough of its value, the government's own study in 1974 proving that cannabis killed cancer cells let the cat out of the bag forever. So they tried to ignore it.
But from that point, everyone involved in keeping cannabis' abilities under wraps became a part of a conspiracy to maim and kill innocent people. Once you know something, you can't simply un-know it. Those who spoke out they tried to silence, one way or another. (Some estimate the cancer drug and chemo industry to be worth more than $100 billion per year.)
However, when the government later discovered that our own body's possessed a cannabinoid system back in 1988, that was the final straw. We now know that we're wired for cannabinoids as a way of maintaining optimal health.
- So any act to delay or discourage its use at this point is tantamount to advocating torture and murder.
I'm looking at you Barack Obama.
