for the last 30 years Fresno, CA has been ruled by born again Christians... the kind that honors money and power over people.
The last 3 mayors tout their Christianity as have the previous Sheriff and the long time current Chief of Police.
This video is from the Martin Luther King Day march in downtown Fresno last month. Chief Dyer's says that God made Police the Ministers of Justice. The comment about being "God's Minister of Justice" is at the end of the video.
This is the same Chief of Police that has terrorized the homeless, who's police depart that has had very high incidents of police abuse and killings.
there are some hard working progressives in Fresno. They are in the heart of the beast and on MLK they have to walk along side the abusive City government officials.

****** how arrogant that Fresno Chief of Police uses Dr King's day to declare himself a "minister of justice"..
it reminds me of the Mahatma Gandhi saying:
"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.

(12,882 posts)Dyer and his ilk are doing and saying what they do because they're ASSIGNED those positions to do their "ministering". Assigned by the very RED bunch that flavors politics here. This whole central valley is engaged in a non-coordinated game of whack-a-mole with it's homeless. Chased from even the most non-vital "campgrounds" because some cowgirl in her Caddy pickup truck has been approached for a handout. While gangs continue the unacknowledged terrorism epidemic, cops are busy supervising shopping cart communities. This in an effort (a veneer) to prove that these different communities don't suffer economically, the few feeble efforts to "help" them is to try and imbue them with religion. Religion that supposedly has put them where they are to enrich their lives and hopefully show them how to be fishers of men. Fresno, Visalia, Tulare, Bakersfield........ "what economic disparity???"

(45,251 posts)For many believers, saying that you are anointed by God or have been called by God to do what you are doing pretty much ends any discussion of wrongdoing. Some people truly believe they have been called. Some people use it as a gimmick.
