(4,452 posts)I buy the basics and cook myself. I might but two five pound bags of sugar a year and most of that goes in my coffee, the rest is to kick the yeast for baking bread. I might consume another two pounds in soda and other junk food a year.
Until 2002 I probably was consuming close to 10 lbs a year but I don't think I could ever consume more than that. I'm not much of a sweet freak so I guess I'd be the odd man out.

(36,827 posts)You can certainly add it if you like, but generally speaking bread has more flavor the longer it takes for the yeast to develop. If you want to shorten the development time, you can simply add more yeast.

(30,947 posts)I have not bought sugar in about 10 years. I use Splenda for anything that needs sweetening. I never drink soda or fruit juices. I only drink V-8. And I always buy sugar-free ice cream and candy. I am sure there is sugar in some of the processed foods I eat, but I am trying to keep sugar at a minimum.
