Thom Hartmann: How Obama could kill the Democratic Party

If President Obama doesn’t watch out, he could shoot Santa Claus. And if he does go ahead and shoot Santa Claus, that will mean the end of the Democratic Party. In the coming weeks, the president is expected to announce his new budget plan for fiscal year 2015. And while he is more than a year into his second term in office, a time when he should have the Democratic Party behind him, many progressives are worried. That’s because the last time President Obama put forward a budget proposal, it included a plan to use the so-called “Chained CPI” to calculate Social Security cost of living increases that account for inflation.

It is unfortunate how far he has strayed from the promises of 2008. At least in some areas. 20score Feb 2014 #3

The war on whistle-blowers, the NSA spying, extrajudicial killings, the continued mountaintop removal, placing those who had caused the last economic downturn into positions of power, the sellout of the public option, allowing criminal bankers to remain free and to get richer, medical marijuana busts, introducing chained CPI... the list goes on.

He should be praised when he does well, such as his acknowledgement of science, increasing money for green projects, the stimulus bill, civil rights legislation, etc. But when he does the wrong thing he should be challenged and challenged hard. Just as if he were a republican doing the wrong thing. The damage is done, no matter who does it.

I place the blame squarely were it belongs. At his feet and the feet of those incapable of critical thought. His most loyal supporters. Those who defend the indefensible and twist logic in order to make wrong seem right, incorporating the disgusting talking points of the Bushies to justify what their man is doing. I could go on, but it's all been said a million times. They won't get it until it's too late.
