Taylor Wilson: Yup, I built a fusion reactor

Taylor Wilson believes nuclear fusion is a solution to our future energy needs, and that kids can change the world. And he knows something about both of those: When he was 14, he built a working fusion reactor in his parents' garage. Now 17, he takes the TED stage to tell (the short version of) his story.

Polywell fusion research is the current version of this 40 yr old fusor design. Funded by the US Navy they hope to see Polywell develop to power Navy ships, using the aneutronic proton Born11 fuel combo, because the majority of the energy is released as alpha particles which can be directly converted to electricity, no nuclear waste, very little total radioactivity.

Fusor.net is the online source for all things fusor

He doesn't claim to have invented the fusor, he was just the youngest to build one. He did invent a new type of radiation detector that was a fraction of the cost of existing ones winning him the Intel prize.

HE parlayed his high school fusor into a slot @ Georgia Inst of Tech, added a cooled cathode grid, and an E-gun, while transfering to U of Madison @ Wisconson, the heart of IEC fusion in the US.

His website is awesome, showing off his skills and craftmanship

If Polywell works out of of these young people will be at the heart of a burgeoning fusion industry. Great stuff thanks.

China has more scientists graduating in a day than we have in a year because they give their students free college.

The RepubliCONS feel we should cut education in order to stop people like Wilson from putting their corporate cronies out of business.
