http://www.upworthy.com/a-man-slams-down-a-bigoted-question-so-hard-he-brings-down-the-house?c=reccon1People of color are often asked, "What kind of ____ are you?" in relation to their ethnicity. It's quite a different question than "Where are you from?"
Example: An American is asked which country in Asia they're from. Or they're asked, "What kind of Asian are you?"
Doesn't that kind of sound like someone is asking what brand they are? Even if it doesn't to you, it's quite a loaded question one that Alex Dang ponders below.

(111,267 posts)1. I remember when I first moved out here, a nurse from the south
asked me if I knew "what" a fellow nurse was. My reply was that he was a great nurse and beyond that she should consider asking him because who knew "what" anybody out here is and why the fuck should it be important, anyway?
She skedaddled back to the south a couple of months later.
I don't look it, but I'm a proud mongrel, myself.

(106,886 posts)2. Yeah. Have had a few ER / ICU experiences recently. My questions - do you want me on my left side?
Or right? On my back? Didn't think to question nationality or ethnicity. There were a lot of other things going on...
