Muffled sounds of distress came from the cardboard box behind a store in the Northern British Columbia town of Prince George. It was -35 degrees and it was only by chance that a woman named Shawna heard those faint cries. What she found was a near-frozen three-month-old Yorkie pup with a rubber band around her muzzle. Her tiny Yorkie nose was bulbous from edema caused by the circulation being cut off by the rubber band, her lips were infected and rotting.
Shawna thought the pup would die, but even if she could be saved, it would cost far more than she had. So Shawna called on Animal Advocates Society BC for help.
Yes, we will pay. That is what we do.
Little Star not only survived her ordeal, but has made a full recovery and is now a permanent member of Shawnas family. The video below chronicles Stars arduous journey and her very happy new life. The video is uplifting but for those of you who are on the sensitive side and cant get through the opening sequence, please enjoy photos of Star feeling better and further along in her recovery. Except for Shawna.
I was so horrified I didn't know what to say. Your post was perfect.

I happen to be a cat person myself. Not too long ago I had three cats: one from a shelter, one from the vet, and one who showed up in our driveway, starving and flea-ridden, determined that we would take her in. We did.
All of those cats were sweet, loving girls and all had good lives.
I've also done volunteer work in an animal shelter, and I've always been in awe of how abused, neglected, and abandoned animals still trust and love humans.
What I love about dogs is how they are totally tuned into humans. They need us in a very special way, and we (collectively and individually) owe it to them to see that they have decent lives. I realize that any one of us can only do so much, but we do what we can.
Right now I have no cats, but someday I will. I may well become a crazy cat lady.
