(113,063 posts)This is the same Putin who calculated how it would attract RW support in America and with the churches in his country to hunt gays before the Olympics. Bush did the same for his election and to burnish support for invasion of Iraq by casting it as a Biblical action.
Try putting it all together, KoKo.

(484 posts)I have a dissatisfaction with MSM and all the crap around, but I don't feel I need to fill it in with a television network that clearly has a strong pro-Russian bias.

(1,296 posts)Maybe our plan should be to start spreading 'roids in the Russian wildlife, so next time Putin decides to wrassle a bear or something with his shirt off, he gets more than he bargained for.

(484 posts)There are plenty of communists on this site. Just look at the socialist-progressive group. Everyone has a philosophy that works for themselves. RT is a Russian propaganda site, funded by the Russian government. It's nothing more, and nothing less. When I see the RT logo, I tune out.

(1,296 posts)If this were a discussion about Cuba or North Korea, bringing up communism and socialism would be relevant. For Russia, no.

(484 posts)Putin considers the breakup of the Soviet Union as the greatest geopolitical catastrophe ever. He and his old school pals of the politburo long for the days of Russian power and influence. Their economic blueprint is communism as long as the privileged few get what they want. Couple that with extreme nationalism, and you've got a system that will keep Putin in power. Come to think of it, it's not unlike capitalism now. At any rate, they are just labels. The main point is that RT is a Russian mouthpiece. And, if you think that Putin is done with his land grabs, think again. He was just testing the waters to see how far he could go. Now he will be contrite and the west will cave. I'm not going to hold my breath until he gives back Crimea.

If you don't like the message you can demonize the messenger....There is a lot of truth in what the panel said regardless if it was from the Russian perspective....much of the world's population said the same thing - especially in its opposition to the Iraq War (2003) and ten years later the Syrian War. Most insightful observation was the US playing the contemporary role of former Cominform.
