(34,661 posts)hold overs at NPR,nothing is changing things any time soon. It's amazing how much damage the Moleing in of all those Bush era appointees have caused. I for one screamed to high hell when this went down. Because of GSA rules,we are now stuck with shit unless they quit or retire. Anyone who has ever held a GSA position knows from what I speak. Talk about political operatives.

(50,420 posts)Spare us the phony objective 3rd party bullshit.
I slam the off button evertime that conservative bitch comes on.
I stopped my NPR contributions for good early in the Bush admin when NPR's softball interviews with no followup questions really started pissing me off. It was embarrassing and maddening to listen to BBC and then compare to the pathetic corporate tool NPR had changed into
Car talk and Prairie Home Companion is all I really like about it anymore

(39,909 posts)...is Prairie Home Companion.
When that goes, so will I.
The only place left for insightful Political Commentary is the Comedy Channel, Amy Goodman,
and some of the shows picked up by RT (like Thom Hartmann).
I remember back in the 60s, we used to laugh at the poor Russians and their State Control Media,
and now we are moving into the same place with our Corporate/State Approved Media.
This was enabled by the Telecommunications Act of 1996 supported by the Corporate Approved "Democrats" working with their partners, The Republicans.
Thanks, Bill.
Turns out that Hope & Change was nothing more than a Marketing Slogan,
and Hillary will be no better.
You will know them by their WORKS.
Click & Clack - The Tappit Brothers have a show that airs here on Saturday morning.
They are hilarious.

(2,164 posts)The Tappit Brothers are retiring soon... Though I supopose there could still be re-runs.

(39,909 posts)but they are retiring soon.
There are 3 hours of Car Talk on XM Radio every weekday afternoon.
I'm a fair mechanic,
and believe in most of the things that they do.
I also owned an old MG for a number of years.
I love it when someone calls in who has just bought a NEW car,
and wants their advice on keeping it looking new.
They say the best thing to do is drive down a country road,
sideswipe trees on both sides,
and forget about keeping it looking new.
LOL.
I bought my LAST new car in 1984.

(5,125 posts)Since Bush installed RW propagandists to run NPR, they have become a national disgrace.
And RW/corporate propaganda is far more effective coming from a phony "liberal" NPR than from a source such as Fox which even my dog knows is an acknowledged propaganda arm of the GOP.
Thank you, Thom Hartmann for being one of the few to speak truth.

democrats should be ashamed of the changes that happened in this country under a democratic president in the 90s.

(57,936 posts)Americans are so used to this horrible monopoly and conglomerate economy we now have that they don't even know it could be different. Thank you, Thom Hartmann.
Support alternative radio. There is lots of it on the internet, and if you can, check out the news programs on KPFK and other Pacifica stations.
If you like Democracy Now, you may like some other Pacifica programs.
Here is a link to yesterday's Ian Masters show, Background Briefing.
Good interviews on current topics. You get a thorough discussion of a topic.
http://ianmasters.com/
Themes are Chinese cyber-snooping, big sugar (and other diet-monsters, {not the words of KPFK}) and the defense budget.
KPFK is the place to go for more informative discussion.
NPR is so superficial, so trying to please Big Brother and his corporate subsidiaries.
I do not agree with everything that Pacifica says, but at least you get enough information to make up your own mind. Pacifica doesn't just read the corporate or government press releases to you.
Thom Hartmann is on KPFK.

(6,145 posts)During the Kiev revolt they kept hosting AEI and Peterson institute guests to explain Ukrainian's problems and how they should be fixed.
Of course it was cut pensions, privatize common assets and remove fuel subsidies that benefited the Ukrainian public. The hosts just swallowed it all without challenging these biased assertions.
I find myself listening less and less these days.

(19 posts)But what happened to the liberal radio during the last 2 election cycles? Goon poof! Of course NPR (national petroleum radio) is 25% propaganda with the RW appointees. But what about our voices on the peoples air waves. Not good during an election cycle.
I live on the west coast and for someone who spends too much time driving, air america and all the rest were a reprieve from the rest of the garbage on our air waves.
We had good talk radio in in San Diego, LA, SF, Portland and Seattle. Now all are gone!
This makes me very nervous during an election cycle. They got NPR and they also took out our other outlets. Where else to get the truth out on the airwaves. I'm not optimistic.

(50,983 posts)There was this asshole on NPR yesterday.
He had a British accent. He said President Obama's greatest failure in office will have been his failure to "fix" social security when he had a chance. He went on to say it would have been as simple as raising the retirement age because of the increase in life expectancy.
That is just one of the reasons the guy is an asshole. Life expectancy is only going up for high salary easy fucking job types. The rest of us probably won't make it to 70 years old. Besides, he never mentioned the much better choice of raising the fucking cap on contributions. It's like raising taxes on well to do motherfuckers is radioactive. Is Grover Norquist the only individual with influence in this country?
I was in the car. My sports radio station had some static so I switched to the staticfree NPR station. I had earlier swore off the fucking NPR stations because of their stream of right wing propaganda. I only had the station on for a matter of minutes and the first thing I hear is we must raise the retirement age. Jesus Christ!
Fuck those assholes.
