1. OMG! Taihen Desu Ne! Truth to Power versus Nucleofascism!

I was born in Tokyo Japan on Japanese Constitution Day, so you could say I have a definite karmic link with the country. And it definitely seems that Japan, first through Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and now through Fukushima, has a lot of negative nuclear karma to work out with the dark side of the atom. When faced with a crisis of this magnitude, the Japanese government, instead of being open, honest and doing whatever it takes to really resolve this problem, seems to be succumbing to the dark side, and taking a nucleo-fascist approach in covering things up. With the post war modern constitution of Japan, she seemed to be repudiating and throwing off her fascist, militarist past forever, but the extraordinary circumstances and pressures of Fukushima are starting to get Japan to regress back to her darker past. This video shows individual Japanese people standing up and having extraordinary grit and courage to look a very dark situation in the face and to dedicate themselves to doing whatever they can about it, and I have always admired this extraordinary moral courage and grit of the Japanese people. But I fear that a repressive, regressively fascist government may be prevailing over the higher moral courage of the Japanese people.

The guy in the end said that this was not a problem of Japan alone, but of the whole world. And then naturally, you would think that there should be some provisions for extraordinary circumstances such as those posed by the Fukushima disaster written in to the charter of the United Nations. If any nation creates a huge environmental catastrophe that spills way beyond its borders to affect the whole world, and proves to be powerless or relatively ineffective to stop it, then the whole world should be called in to help them stop it, right? Does one nation have the right to inflict this kind of damage on the whole world without the whole world doing whatever they can to help them put an end to it? Isn't this essentially an ecological violation of territorial sovereignty and national responsibility? The Japanese people may have a "gaman suru" propensity to put up with conditions that would be intolerable for most of the world's peoples, and a hardy self reliance to boot, but when faced with a battle against conditions and circumstances that are as overwhelming as this one, it ain't no disgrace to call for international backup and reinforcements, I feel.

why this is not being addressed is mind boggling and beyond my comprehension given such grave implications, and the obvious evidence that even the slightest investigation lays bare.

Time for us to all buy our own Geiger counters and take them with us wherever we go. It's up to each of us to investigate the issue for ourselves, and in our own lives if our governments are unwilling to do this. Not only is the Fukushima radiation washing up ashore in California, but in a recent post on DU, they said that the Diablo Canyon nuclear generator was leaking as well.
