One common characteristic of American right wingers is that they have little or no knowledge of actual socialism. Indeed, ignorance in general seems almost prized among them (William F. Buckley! thou shouldst be living in this hour; conservatism hath need of thee: she is a fen of stagnant waters).
Typically, the only things by Orwell that any American has read are Animal Farm and 1984. They have not read Homage to Catalonia, much less The Road to Wigan Pier. Anyone who has read the latter book would not doubt that Orwell was a socialist.
I regularly come across right wingers saying that the Nazis were socialists. One of their standard arguments is "Look at the name: National Socialist German Workers Party." If one believes that the Nazis were socialists because of the name of the party, then one must also believe that the Peoples Democratic Republic of Korea is a democracy. It is exactly the same argument.
One purely technical comment: Move the green plastic bins and the hanging clothes behind you. They do not make a good backdrop.
