I was responding to a post by a right winger that I have known for years on another site and what he said reminded me of a song...(A great song from the past and found that it too is on You tube, the meaning of which is still relevant today, and thought I would share both,)
I posted the lyrics below in a response to him...
"The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys"
If you see something that looks like a star
And it's shooting up out of the ground
And your head is spinning from a loud guitar
And you just can't escape from the sound
Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you
We were children once, playing with toys
And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound of
The low spark of high-heeled boys
The percentage you're paying is too high priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest, was
The low spark of high-heeled boys
If you had just a minute to breathe
And they granted you one final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance?
Or something sim'lar as this?
Don't worry too much It'll happen to you
As sure as your sorrows are joys
And the thing that disturbs you is only the sound of
The low spark of high-heeled boys
The percentage you're paying is too high priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest, was
The low spark of high-heeled boys (heeled boys)
If I gave you everything that I owned
And asked for nothing in return
Would you do the same for me as I would for you?
Or take me for a ride
And strip me of everything, including my pride
But spirit is something that no one destroys
And the sound that I'm hearing is only the sound
The low spark of high-heeled boys (heeled boys

(11,862 posts)Lava lamps, strobe lights and rice curtains.....sitting on the roof watching folks stuck in traffic jams going back to the Peninsula on Sunday...and serving cool-aid to the overheated...and getting into a car to smoke pot for a block or two...THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND...I THOUGHT THEY'D NEVER END....

I'm glad I was there.
I was just gonna say how I wore out the 8-track of this album. Probably listening to it with you!

(21,363 posts)We talked for a couple hours. He was sweet, but I thought he was lying about who he was, next day looked at a Traffic album and there he was!
I did not realize he had died in 2005.
Great song! Thanks zeemike!

(584 posts)I had a music column in my high school newspaper in 73. I wrote about this album, and specifically this song, I can still feel the head phones on my head.

(12,158 posts)I've always loved this tune, and I can pretty much play this entire album (as well as John Barleycorn) in my head. Great to hear this live version. It's great how both Winwood and Wood really stretch out, going outside the chord changes at times. This kind of exploration (along with great compositions and great performances!) is what made me love Traffic, and I love them still.
I remember playing the title track from Low Spark for my mom, knowing she'd appreciate the blues & jazz aspects -- sure enough, she did, since she was always very open musically...although the lyrics puzzled her and made her worry a bit about just what the hell her young son was getting into. Just super cool music, as it turned out.
Interesting analyses on the meaning of the lyrics here:

How about this nice medley of "Glad" and "Freedom Rider" from a few years later?

(18,998 posts)But that is the magic of poetry and music, it can have more than one meaning and can be different for different people...and when it is, it is usually great poetry or music.
Poetry that rhymes and is logical and easy to figure out is usually from people with little creativity.
Same for music...IMO

That was great thanks for posting it.

Fifteen year old Steve Winwood sitting under a hairdryer playing organ. Hilarious!
