This video uses satire to contrast the peaceful, idealistic Occupiers with the brutality of the police arrests.
April 7 was Re-Occupy Day in Minneapolis -- Occupiers gathered in Peavey Plaza and Loring Park. After being evicted from Peavey at 1:30 am, they peacefully marched down the street and were brutally attacked by the police. Videos at www.occupyminneapolis.mn show the police pulling several people off public sidewalks and violently slamming a young man into the street. A KSTP-TV photojournalist was injured after a police officer knocked the camera off his shoulder without warning. Another independent journalist was arrested.

(6,119 posts)You have to watch and listen to this video.
The Minneapolis news shows made it look like the Re-Occupy was a bunch of young hooligans.. what a difference when you see this video.
I love the text that goes along with pictures.

(76 posts)just a few disgruntled young people. Most of my friends support it - and they're in their 60's!

(14,549 posts)Would be better without the sarcasm because it fosters the expectation that peaceful protest will be met with clubs and pepper spray.
Sarcasm is over rated.

(164 posts)peaceful people who want to see the U.S. be more democratic are treated brutally by the police. The media wants to portray the Occupiers as irresponsible young people who have to be held in check by the police - exactly the opposite is happening. The Occupiers are young and old people who care about this country and the 1% use the police to try and break up the movement.

(14,549 posts)I have worked within volunteer and loosely organized groups enough to know that the 80/20 dynamic is almost always evident. And when you are in the 20 and actually DO something, not just talk endlessly about things that could, would and should be done but actually do something, then the people in the 80% often just continue with 'would, could and should.' It's true: Everyone's a critic and I just did it.
As I re-read my own comments I thought of my answer to such remarks in similar situations -- 'If you want it done that way, then the next time you get off your butt and make a video, do it your way."

(164 posts)I want to know how other people are perceiving our work. We've found that satire and some humor often gets more response from people - but sometimes satire is not as clear.
