McCain Makes Revealing Slip on Fox: Obama Didn’t Want to ‘Arm ISIS’

The senator proceeded to seriously misspeak when he described a 2013 meeting in the White House in which everyone on the administration’s national security team “recommended arming ISIS.” But, he explained, “the president, by himself, turned it down.”

Today, Mr McCain's office said that no one who met with the senator identified themselves by those names. "None of the individuals the senator planned to meet with was named Mohamad Nour or Abu Ibrahim," a spokesman said. "A number of other Syrian commanders joined the meeting, but none of them identified himself as Mohamad Nour or Abu Ibrahim."

They answered a fighter from Northern Storm Brigade, but in a Time video this organization is shown calling for the Caliphate.

You wrote and said that the man in the black shirt is "a fighter in the Northern Storm Brigade, a Free Syrian Army-affiliated group with a long history of fighting against ISIS."

I watched a video made by TIME magazine about the Northern Storm Brigade from this website: http://www.trackingterrorism.org/group/azaz-northern-storm-brigade

The video is here: http://www.time.com/time/video/player/0,32068,2280140412001_2140288,00.html

At 4'45" into the video one of the speakers calls for the re-establishment of the Caliphate, which is what the Islamic State (IS, ISIS, ISIL) is meant to do. I don't see a lot of difference between the two, Northern Storm Brigade and IS, if you see what I mean.

I find myself yelling "NO!!!!" at the computer monitor.
I'm sick of my brothers and sisters in arms being sacrificed for corporate profits.

Fuck these bastards! They want more war?
They should personally go over there and wage the war they want.

Pardon my language. Hard to be civil with all these lives being thrown away for some schmuck one percenter to make yet even more in profits while those at home, the ones that actually matter, are suffering more and more each day.

I don't their sacrifices to be in vain...

To absent friends...

our own enemies so that we have people who we can fight and who can terrorize us.

This guarantees a bonanza for military and surveillance expenditure.

And takes away money that we could spend on our own infrastructure.

only under a new brand name. McCain is laying out the case to combine Iraq and Syria just as ISIS does in their name and actions. He threw Libya into the mix too. When Wes Clark said there was a plan to "take out 7 countries in five year" 3 of those were: Iraq, Libya and Syria.

Btw, Why would a fanatical Sunni/wahabbi sect choose an English acronym for their name? In the Middle East Isis is better known as the name for:

an Egyptian goddess of motherhood and fertility, who was attested as early as the Old Kingdom of Egyptian history. One of the nine gods of the Ennead, Isis was the consort of her brother, Osiris, the first (divine) king of Egypt.

It seems odd to reject the boundaries drawn by England after WW1 yet name yourself in English rather than Arabic, also to use "state" rather than "republic" as most other Islamic countries have. The name ISIS (which evokes the word "crisis&quot seems aimed at an English speaking audience.

The name “Daash” is an acronym for “Dulat al-Islam fi al-Iraq wal-Sham” – “the Islamic State in Iraq and Greater Syria”,

I think they chose the name to imply local origin and control, while in reality being a foreign driven organization

Senior Qaeda figure in Iraq a myth: U.S. military

...

The Islamic State of Iraq was established to try to put an Iraqi face on what is a foreign-driven network, Bergner said. The name Baghdadi means the person hails from the Iraqi capital.
