The Proclaimers-Cap in Hand(Yes Scotland)

A quick explanation as to why Scotland may well vote to become independent(and one of my favorite songs from the Eighties):

I could tell the meaning of a word like serene
I got some 'O' Grades when I was sixteen
I can tell the difference between margarine and butter
I can say "Saskatchewan" without starting to stutter

But I can't understand why we let someone else rule our land
Cap in hand

I could get a broken jaw from being in a fight
I know it's evening when day turns to night
I can understand why Stranraer lie so lowly
They could save a lot of points by signing Hibs Goalie

But I can't understand why we let someone else rule our land
Cap in hand

We fight when they ask us
We boast, then we cower
We beg for a piece of
What's already, what's, what's already
What's, what's already ours

We fight when they ask us
We boast, then we cower
We beg for a piece of
What's already, what's, what's already
What's, what's already ours

Once I thought I could make God a bribe
So I said I was in His lost tribe
Getting handouts can be so frustrating
"Get in line son, there's five million waiting"

I can't understand why you let someone else rule your land
Cap in hand
No, I can't understand why we let someone else rule our land
Cap in hand, cap in hand
No, I can't understand why you let someone else rule your land
Cap in hand, cap in hand, cap in hand, cap in hand

(note: Stanraer and "Hibs"-Hibernian, which plays in Edinburgh-are Scottish football teams).

As Led Zeppelin once reminded us "....sometimes words have two meanings."
For example, the word"Republican" has a very different meaning in the UK than it has in the U.S.

BTW...did you see THIS?

4. If the "Aye" prevails, though, it will be because the "Nae" ran a truly stupid and arrogant campaign

It tended to sound as if Cameron was just annoyed that some of the subjects were getting notions above their station.

Are you Scottish, btw?

7. Weird thing...as you know, of course, most of the "Unionists" in Northern Ireland

are descended from Scots...from the "Ulster Plantation".

I wonder what THEY, as Scots-Irish, make of the fact that more and more Scots IN Scotland no longer want to be part of the political entity(the UK)they themselves have been obsessed with staying part of? Must be a bit weird for them to process this, methinks.

Sadly, not, as I hold a British passport but do not fit into any of the categories.

Quite a steppy ditty there for the Independence Campaign. When is all this going to go down, Mr Burch? I think I read somewhere "9-10" days or so? So much for the hand-wringers.
I say Go-For-It Scotland!

The vote on the referendum is Thursday, September 18th. CSPAN will probably air the BBC coverage of the results, which will most likely be known in the early evening, Eastern time.
