I have long noticed that too many people focus on how much tax they're paying, not what is left over. You'll hear stories of people who don't want to sell their homes because of the tax they'll owe, even though what they'll realize from the sale is a very large sum of money.
Back in the 1970's I can recall a co-worker complaining after a pay raise, that he was now paying so much in taxes. I asked him if he was taking home more or less money than before the raise. He was taking home more, but still could only focus on the increase in the tax amount.

(1,555 posts)our tax dollars do so very much good for our country, and yet many people focus of the negatives: war spending, corporate welfare, private prisons. Not that those things shouldn't be kept in the public awareness, they should, but people tend to associate negativity with taxes rather than all the great things they do for us.
