The soldiers of Sparta was known for being pampered - before going into war - and as you point out - it was centuries before they was beaten - by soldiers with newer and better battle tactics than they had... And ancient Sparta was not as gun-ho as before believed - in fact Sparta seldom was going into battle - if they was not sure if they had the possibility to win the war - as the army they had - was small compared to many other armies - and the State had used a lot of resources to make sure they had the best army around - and the leaders of that State - was not willing to waste the armies just for the fun of it... Most of the Spartan Army was also used to defend the homeland - and to keep their subjects who was not spartan under control - as they was often rebellious and had to be kept under control.... And in classical time -like under the war against the Persians - most of the Spartan Army was kept back home - instead of fighting like the rest of the Greek world - even the small army who fended off the persians at Thermopylae - long enough to the Athenian Army to go to a more secure area - where the Persian Army later on would be defeated.. was just a small part of the Spartan Army 300 soldiers under King Leonidas was making a last great stand against the army of Persia - and lost - but was going down in History - over 2500 year later as a heroic act of fate - and who also should change the history of the world - long after the last of them was bones in a grave..

(5 posts)I'm confused! Wouldn't that be a good thing? It should be written into the
U.S. constitution. All military personnel should be entitled to a massage
before battle.

(7,875 posts)So, Pvt Pyle is now trying to tell us that if we allow gays in the military, they'll find each other too distracting to fight properly? Does he feel the same way about women in the military, or has it been too long since that ship sailed?

Dam - If I was in the military - and was slated to going into battle - I would also want a massage before going into war - it is a tense thing to go into - and it would have been good to at least get some of the tension away - before war broke out... And I am straight..
I think he is just stupid to be honest... Arrogant - and stupid...

(15,882 posts)I know it's old, but he's such a little child. He got a ticket, so he wraps it with a note and tries to stick it under the wiper of a vacant park service vehicle, like a smart ass.
I find it interesting that even with the redistricting the competition can't make this guy out to be the buffoon he is. I mean, these people in Texas must have children who know they voted for this buffoonery? Don't they care what the kids will think when they get older?

A Texas congressman was "rude and irate" after receiving a parking ticket near the Lincoln Memorial earlier this month, according to a police report.
Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, told U.S. Park Police he was on a committee that oversees the agency and would not pay a fine, according to the report, which was obtained by Politico. Gohmert was given a citation after 11 p.m. on March 13 for parking his vehicle in a spot reserved for National Park Service vehicles.
The outspoken conservative lawmaker referred officers to a congressional plate in his car window, according to the police report, and left without the ticket.
Kimberly Willingham, a spokeswoman for Gohmert, said the congressman parked in a one of several empty spots and believed he was allowed to do so. She said a park service officer apologized to Gohmert when he identified himself.
"A park service vehicle pulled up as he was putting a note with the ticket on a vacant park service vehicle..."

I can think of no one who shows more feelings of entitlement than a rich Republican.
