Overshadowed by the Ukraine conflict next door, President Vladimir Putin's repressive policies are casting another shadow over freedoms in Russia. Urge Secretary of State Kerry to show solidarity with Russia's human rights community and take concrete action against the Kremlin's sweeping crackdown on human rights.

Sign the petition and demand Secretary Kerry to work with the European Union to call for the repeal of Russia's repressive legislation and to support Russia's independent human rights activists.
Petition to Secretary John Kerry

Secretary Kerry,

Acknowledging the staggering challenges of the Ukraine conflict, we cannot afford to ignore the increasingly repressive domestic policies that have restricted the basic human rights of Russia's citizens.

Leading up to the Olympics in February, President Vladimir Putin attempted to improve Russia's human rights profile on the global stage by releasing a few high-profile prisoners and lessening pressure on rights groups. But since the closing ceremony, he has spearheaded the most repressive anti-rights campaign since the fall of the Soviet Union

The "propaganda war" that is using the Ukraine as a proxy and a more than 10 year campaign intiated by the International Republican Institute, the Neocons, and some neoliberals is not conducive to making the world a more just place. This campaign is more about global dominance and geopolitical strategies of powers and wealth.

For instance: In all the "discussion" where the situation in Ukraine is USED it is almost never mentioned, or completely distorted, that Ukraine (and some Eastern European countries) have had equal issues in areas like Gay Rights and in fact antisemitism and extremism are worse in Ukraine and Eastern Europe.

None of these "sources" will discuss the effects that the introduction and mass invasion of western fundamentalist Christianity, as well as huge flows of Right Wing money from American and other western forces and what part they have played. Russia in many ways is fighting the same fight as here in the US. With a mixture of manipulative world oligarchic forces who want to "recapture" the economy there and Right wing politicians, and fundamentalist trending Religious political forces.

Russia has been making progress. Despite what you will hear here (Notice it is only a few people who post this stuff) and in the media does not accurately inform people. In REALITY Putin is a moderating force. But like in the US his hand is often forced by the struggles of these forces. These videos circulating do not mention that the violent actors are on the run and hunted by the Russian Police. In fact the leader of the group you see in most of these videos escaped to UKRAINE where he is at large.

LEARN!

The world will not move to a better place by continuing in the narrow minded approaches that are currently articulated by fearful neocon and neoliberal strategists that are manipulating what is actually a much more complex picture.

Listen to other sources and yes, even the view from Eurasia; Not to be further "propagandized", but in order to formulate a more real understanding.

This is a video of the Valdai conference that occurred yesterday. You will be told by some here it is "propaganda" to listen to any other views. But THINK! This panel is made up of dignitaries from multiple nations. It is essentially a debate panel, something we liberals used to consider a way of learning.

On the panel are a former PM of France and Former Chancellor of Austria, and yes, Putin. Listening to their viewpoints does not mean you have to agree with everything they say. But as an intellectual you may find it very valuable for understanding of what are actually very complex and often misrepresented events.
