But my experiences have shown me that there are some truly insane people out there. Many of these fundamentalists believe so strongly that they would kill for the slightest perceived slight. I think for the majority of fundamentalists, he is right. But I don't know if that's a particularly large majority.

They're not preaching with faith, they don't believe what they say. So they insist on an echo.

They are not behaving as sentient, conscious, self aware beings, but as if in the throes of a drug or hypnotized.

Dangerous people to be around, dishonest with themselves and everyone else. Desperate to have their faux reality reflected in everyone. But it people are forced to act as if they believe, it's still a lie.

It's a common rightwing tactic as well, everyone must agree! Or else!

Too bad the crazies aren't around to hear it. Ignorance is not bliss...its damned dangerous in these backward, illiterate countries. Do you think it's maybe a bad idea to put our troops in the middle of such lunacy. Of course not.

Get the fook out of the Middle East!

is definitely at the heart of Christian fundamentalism, I feel, in its relentless zeal to convert. Thank God that they can't get away with murder in our country, like they can in Pakistan! So, they just have to content themselves with verbal harassment and intimidation, hoping that, if that works, it will lead to the victim's conversion to their particular brand or sect of Christianity. I run from Jehovah's Witnesses like a medieval villager running from the plague. There is definitely no reasoning with those people, nor anything remotely resembling a civilized, two-way dialogue.

And indeed, he is spot on here. No matter what your belief, or unbelief, fundamentalism and proselytization is the enemy.

Also, any time religion mixes with either government or science it is an utterly toxic mix.

For an example, if you are a woman living in Saudi Arabia, try driving a car down a street (hint: burkha, or no burkha, it won't make a difference).
