The oil producing countries did not like him. The Iranians decided to make him pay for our horrible foreign policy concerning their country, and the other countries raised the price of oil causing inflation that was blamed on him. He was nonetheless a really great president.

It was a clear act of treason that we later called Iran-Contra. The hostage issue could have been resolved but for Republican interference.

The gas lines everyone remembered were under Nixon and mass inflation was under Ford who blamed consumers and claimed the economy was all psychological.

The Arab States liked Carter because he was honest. Nixon and Ford were double dealing.

President Carter proves the difference between "an elder statesman" and a money grubbing, warmongering, sore loser. Respect has to be EARNED, and President Carter did just that. How many other former presidents are as active as President Carter and President Clinton? NONE. The repubs. take care of themselves, as usual. McCain will NEVER be president he was never, ever presidential material. Once he chose $carah PayMe as his VP, his goose was cooked Even his fellow repubs. said he does not have the temperament to be president. He is an angry, ugly little man.

He put solar panels on the roof of the WH and promised we would get 20% of our energy from solar by 2000 and never increase oil imports from this point on which would have prevented our oil wars.

That was a declaration of war with Big Oil who helped put in Reagan who took off the panels and reversed all Carters solar goals.

If Carter won in 1980 and we went big into solar and solar research, how much we'd be getting from solar by now? Maybe 1/3 or more if we did hit 20% by 2000.

would have made a tremendous difference. Sometimes I wonder if we'll ever recover from what Reagan and W have done to destroy our country's economy as well as all the foreign policy messes they created while desperately trying to look tough.

Carter was not only better than they say he was, he was much better than many in this country deserved. They don't know how good they had it because of superficial nonsense instead of real policies that make a long lasting difference.

that invested big in national infrastructure. (Obama has done some, but not enough...though, it's not always been his fault)

Clinton, while good for the overall economy and stock market, didn't really do much to improve the roads, bridges, airports, electrical grid, etc. And, of course, Reagan and the Bushes did nothing other than allow pushes to privatize.

Still, while Carter was a good and honest man, he was challenged from the left by Ted Kennedy and I'm sure many on DU would have supported Kennedy if the internet were around at the time.

We arm the world and keep them needing arms. Eisenhower was a prophet who warned of the military industrial complex yet they were already too powerful and entrenched to be stopped. Only when the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest will we have no use for war.

When I was around 10 or so I agreed with him. However, I have come to appreciate Carter over the years. My regret is that Reagan won instead. I was 14 at the time and beginning to have doubts about the GOP. I grew up in a fairly right wing home. Guess we will have to clean up the mess Reagan left behind.

Pres. Carter's statements on govt spying were remarkable. He keeps a correspondence going with a variety of world leaders, but never ever uses email. As he pointed out, Uncle Sam tells Americans that their email is not read by govt spies, but what they don't say is that all emails are stored, so that at the time of their choosing those emails can be read.

So the former POTUS has typewritten letters put into envelopes, stamped, and mailed from a US Post Office.

He's an amazing man.

I am so glad I took the time to see the full interview. President Carter was my first vote (unfortunately Reagan won instead) and I will never forget how much I liked him back then and how much I adore him now. He has proven that the Presidency was not his best accomplishment even though he never dropped a bomb or fired a missile. Peaceful man. What he has done for humans all over the globe is amazing and he is so humble and so kind. I just love him more and more. I'm so glad I was able to watch this. Thanks for posting it.

Love the line about McCain being a warmonger, because it is so very true. Carter is the best man to ever be president, he was the real deal, no trojan horse about him. Think that's the real reason the right wing went after him so hard, he cut down on their war profits and that couldn't be allowed. Had to get Raygun in so the pipeline of war would get started up again.
