This interview brings up an excellent point about why it’s bad to torture; It produces low quality false information. The least case scenario is our servicemen risking their livings hunting down bogus intel. The worst case scenario is Colin Powell using information in his famous U.N. presentation, obtained by torturing a terrorist named al-Libbi, as proof there was a connection between Al Qaida and Saddam Hussein.

So torture produces Intel so bad that it triggers unnecessary wars? I would say that makes torture bad enough to outlaw!

PS - Rattner states he's still working on getting these war crimes prosecuted in Europe and he mentioned Spain. I thought the Obama admin shut down Spain's pursuit of justice for our American torturers?

Using these techniques, they got the answer they WANTED about the connection between Saddam and al-Qaeda. The fact that it was a lie was irrelevant to Bush and Cheney. It gave them the "intelligence" they needed to fabricate the need to go to war. They used this "intelligence" to hoodwink a compliant Congress and press to go along with the pretense of a "justified" attack on Iraq. So, when Cheney says these techniques work he means they work to create a ruse to justify a war.
