(3,963 posts)It seems a bit staged... Like when he goes into the booze store, that is intended to make people think "yeah, I knew it, it's blowing the 100 on booze!". Dunno...

(135,425 posts)That homeless guy sounds like he's miked, or there's a boom over their heads.
Usually when you try to film with a small camera on the street, you CHS -- Can't Hear Shit -- at least when it comes to dialogue.
Also, the interactions seem a bit staged and preachy. If it gets the point across, it's all good, though, but I do have a jaundiced eye....

(451 posts)The guy that gave him the 100 bucks would have to have the proper microphone. If you saw the cat-calling while walking through NYC video, you can see that it's possible to get this kind of sound.

(135,425 posts)You THINK it was clear because ... the entire thing was SUBTITLED. Pull up that video on YT and put your hand over the subtitles, half of the comments are unintelligible or at least in the "hard to hear" range.
This had "cinema verite meets Hollywood" written all over it. The guy is always in the shot, the camera shakes--but only just a bit, the guy has a GIANT checkered bag so there's no chance that you can lose him in a crowd, every shot is artfully framed...and the sound quality is clear as a bell.
Maybe they got lucky. It could happen. I just don't know people who interact that way.
Like I said, if it drives people towards good works, so what if it's truthiness? Half that "UPWORTHY" stuff is manufactured, why not this as well?

(7,473 posts)Homelessness is most often the result of some of the nasty stuff life sends us. Whether this was planned or spontaneous does not matter. Help is needed everywhere.
Whether you give to homeless people or homeless animals, just give if you can.

I wasn't expecting to get this kind of footage... to be honest, I thought this video would be more an exposing homeless people video at first. But I'm so glad that I could witness and capture such a beautiful moment. This has to be one of the most amazing experience so far on this channel. I did not only just help a homeless man, but I actually met an incredible human being and a friend. We were following him for a couple miles for almost an hour or so. Later that day we took him out to eat and got him a hotel to stay. The more I talk to him, the more I sense how genuine he is.... I gave him my number and told him to call me when he needs help. This again proof that not all the homeless people are bad people. Never judge a book by its cover. One love!
Thanks to Cody for filming this "How Does A Homeless Man Spend $100?" and check out his videos:

I think its a real document. The homeless guy sure seemed real, he had that tiredness around the eyes that says 'homeless'.

(13,452 posts)but, for he and his now deceased parents that money is now tied up in the National Debt mostly spent on the military to protect him from the evil commies while he's allowed to die in the cold.

(22,651 posts)people have to buy (overpriced) foods from the corner stores. Don't have to hand out cash either. an extra bag of food from your grocery store or lunch trip, gloves, hats, socks, raincoat, duffelbag, backpack, tarps, a paid night or two in a motel.

(5,442 posts)I've met the best people I've ever known volunteering at my local food bank. If you're unemployed and feeling down, if you've got some time to spare over the holidays and want to do something other than shop, go help out. Nothing feels better.

(24,703 posts)I know I have read some of the remarks about this short film and I can say :
I have been there
And I have done that.
No matter how it was presented this is a everyday occurrence in this society, its the unseen, being left behind, because we don't want to confront the homeless issue, unless you live in Florida and other parts of the country where they have made it a crime.
Try it for two years and your entire perspective will change

(7,745 posts)Give him $100 and he helps people he doesn't know.
Now I feel like a piece of shit because I have so much more than him and I'd probably spend a $100 windfall on something selfish like booze.

(26,366 posts)HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) The viral video of a homeless man buying food for friends with $100 he had been given warmed the hearts of many of the more than 25 million people who clicked on it.
Donations came pouring in for the homeless man named Thomas. More than $130,000 donated from around the globe in about a week.
Josh Paler Lin, the YouTube personality who uploaded the nearly five-minute video, is telling everyone within earshot that the heartwarming viral video is real.
The homeless mans brother, however, said that his brother is being scammed. Meanwhile, an eyewitness to the filming also believes the entire thing is a hoax.
