Until that changes many of them will always vote Republican.

Also, too many don't like (or have a good opinion of) people that aren't white, and they will NOT vote for the same party that THEY vote for.

I wish that weren't the damn truth.

Great to have you join us! It's really ridiculous. And saddest and most discouraging of all - THESE are the people who will make damn sure to get to the polls and vote. I wish more of us voted - to cancel them out. It just grates on me to think - OUR side, that isn't infected and rendered mentally impaired by watching Pox Noise, those of us among liberals who keep ourselves well-informed, believe in and value science, and appreciate the much-needed separation of church and state, OURS are the ones who are more likely to stay home.

And now that I've written that and really looked at it, I must admit that sadly it does make me start wondering - "well, then, exactly WHO are the stupid ones?"

These aren't the people we need to mock, or worry about.

And it's kind of beneath us to take cheap and easy shots at people with bad teeth and messy yards.

Not funny, DU.

We need to call out the real evil people, like the Kochs, and embrace these people because they, too, are victims.

I hate that I have to explain this.

Maybe we don't know how to reach him, but for folks to laugh and pretend we are so different is what is really depressing.

but, and perhaps it's my jaded side here, I do think there are many who laugh over this video. It so tempting to have people who are ideologically opposed to us be toothless and ignorant and easy to condemn.

I just hope that if we don't know how to reach them, someone who does will step up to try. The best people to do this are the people who grew up right there and have an understanding of their community. If we keep lumping people into groups based on where they are from, we're defeating that aim.

They can carry on a conversation and with patience can be taught to come to different conclusions.

Using facts and kindness most of them can be convinced of a few things, away from the shit they get from Fox.

I don't see that as the cause of the problem, I see them as victims.

If you listen closely toward the end when they show Sarah Palin speaking, you can here supporters chanting "DRILL, BABY, DRILL!"

Its funny. I doubt they'll be chanting that when fracking comes to their town and makes their tap water flammable.

Good to have you with us! What you see is what you get. They tend to be poorly educated and gullible, and willfully ignorant - and they're undoubtedly kept that way by loyally watching only Pox Noise. As long as that condition continues, that's how they'll be. They'd probably refuse to believe it, and go ahead and drink it. As some have said here - "the stupid is strong with this one, Luke."

Most of my family. (Huge family, 11 uncles and about 100 cousins) Are VERY conservative. They all tend to have 1 thing in common, RACISM. I have heard almost every rethug in my family use the n word a few times. And say disgustingly racist things about President Obama, and those on welfare. I have an uncle that actually believed that the economy would collapse and there would be no more food and people would resort to cannibalism because of Obama. The funny thing is he was a huge supporter of Mccain, Romney, Bush and any other rethuglican candidate who would have destroyed the economy. I also have an uncle who's wife is so anti abortion that she would make her daughters give births to a rapists baby if her daughter was to be raped. Here's the thing about her: I knew that if she found out I was a democrat she would have literally cut my head off. So I pretend to be a right winger around her and her family.
It is AMAZING to hear the nutty things they say. So I guess you could call me a blue fish in a sea of red ones in my family. But I live in a blue state so I have friends who share my views.

He'd rhapsodize about "I love a cowboy" when bush2 was pResident. That was a nauseating one, considering dubya was about as far from being anything remotely like a real "cowboy" as I am. Farther, even, because I'm not afraid of horses as he is. Then later, this individual would eagerly circulate the "my rights are being violated because I'm not allowed to say the n-word" email. Ever see that one? GEEZ, Mom, you're friends with this person?

He really believed this shit. And he influenced her thinking as well. YOIKS. It IS dangerous - and not a little bit scary - to have that many people so far out on the loony edge and embracing that mindset so thoroughly that they are indeed unreachable.

There are enough red states that they could call a Constitutional Convention and pass an amendment to allow any state that wants, to secede. Not one shot would have to be fired.

Then we could get those states off the dole which is paid for by the blue states.

“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. …We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. …In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons…who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.”

But you know what? I could go to any state and find someone just as ignorant and living in conditions much the same as that poor guy. The problem with Mississippi is that we have an over-abundance of people like that, and hardly anyone seems to care enough to do something about it. In fact, the people in power here benefit from all of the ignorance here, so they have no incentive to fix the problem.

Ignorance is chipping away the foundation of this country because we have people in power who benefit from spreading it. That's why it's so important to choose a government that's truly interested in educating the citizens. I'm not talking about Common Core bullshit, I mean real education that can help the students and the human race as a whole move forward. Until we have a government like that in power, expect to see more and more people like this man.
