I mean, wouldn't it be a better approach to grind them first, produce a base that could be used instead of handing people a sucker with a scorpion inside it?

Seems like the number 1 factor against people eating bugs is the "ick" factor of seeing the bug in the first place. If history has proved anything, its that people will eat damn near anything as long as it does not look disgusting to them. Cockroaches and beetles may be delicious, but if I am scooping it out of the shell, my appetite vanishes...

You're also right about the powder as being the best approach. Right now companies are making flour from crickets and mealworms. It has as much protein and nutrients as meat like chicken and beef.

Insects like to live in colonies and are grown and harvested much more humanely.

They reduce space needed per pound - cattle need acres per cow while millions of insects can be grown on one acre. In fact, urban farming is even possible.

The methane output is negligible where, as everyone knows, cattle and swine are a major producer.

Water usage is less than 0.5%.

It makes a lot of sense. Insects are basically a super food.

You're right about the cows and pigs too...but then again, I am always shocked that ANYONE thought to eat crabs, lobsters and shrimp either...

I think that using the protein powder approach has the best chance at mass adoption for sure. There's just no way people in this country are going to get over the ick-factor of a bowl of mealworms or larvae....for god's sake, you have 25-30% of the country still getting the vapors over gay marriages!

The faster we move away from factory farming the better, not only for the animals but for us as well.
There really does need to be a back to the land movement for the purpose of producing good food to compete with the shit they now feed us.
