in a Very Rough Barroom!!!!
Yes, ladies and gents, it's Nixon By Nixon--a history lesson that, if you missed it the first time around, is worth a look again:
The tale of the tape is something else!!!! In his OWN WORDS, in his OWN VOICE~! Wowza!

(3,982 posts)Hardly a war he does not support.
I voted for him in the past but I hardly recognize him anymore.
As for back then he was totally in the right.

(135,425 posts)Kerry's objections, as I remember, to Vietnam had to do with the meatgrinder aspect/body count attitude of the prosecutors of the war. It's not that Kerry was a swords into plowshares type (he was a commissioned officer in the US Navy, after all), he simply resented and despised stupidity and waste. He didn't like the "cannon fodder" way the war was conducted. He knew that this kind of strategy was a loser. He didn't want to see young people thrown into combat situations to be attrited at a dizzying rate. Now, he had other objections as well, but a great deal of his focus went to that "last man to die in Vietnam" sensibility.
We're much better at preservation of life on the field of combat. There are other issues, certainly, that come home with the soldier, but surviveability has increased by leaps and bounds.
It would not surprise me that his POV is affected by this fact, but I don't know that for a certainty.
