Bill Maher New Rule: ‘Why Do We Punish Sex So Much More Than Anything Else?’

VIDEO here: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/bill-maher-why-do-we-punish-sex-so-much-more-than-anything-else/

SEX. Now that I’ve got your attention, Bill Maher has a few words he’d like to say. In his show-ending New Rule tonight, Maher went after the media for pursuing the most titillating details of the Secret Service prostitution scandal instead of something more seriously important. While President Obama went to Colombia for a summit with Latin American leaders, it has not matched the media coverage of the Secret Service scandal because, as Maher argued, the media is so obsessed with sex they should be starting all of its coverage of the scandal with “Dear Penthouse.” ... <SNIP> ...

He seems to be stuck in some Hugh Hefner view of sexuality. However, I am annoyed that sex is *so* bad to the RW, while violence is okey-dokey. (The exception, of course, is the plastic fembots utilized for beer commercials during football games. They're All-American!)

And Sarah Palin. As long as nobody sees them naked. Hm. Well, on the other hand, if Sarah Palin ever did a Playboy spread you wouldn't be able to keep it on the shelves in red states...

I guess they're OK with sex as long as nobody finds out about it.

And I agree. Does anyone even know WHY Obama went there? No, because the whole story was overshadowed by some bad behavior. I did not hear Bill make excuses for the behavior of the agents.

And he's 100% right about both the edwards case and gingrich. I got SO tired of hearing jokes and jibes about newts multiple wives, and nothing about his ETHICS CHARGES brought by the house or him leaving in disgrace. Or the scams he pulls all the time. Rachel Maddow is the only one who's called out gingrich on this behavior.

I would say as Commander in Chief he knows the Secret Service should behave in a professional manner and that does NOT include paying women to be semen receptacles

The only thing one of the agents did wrong was trying to cheat one of the women out of her hard-earned money and then harass her when she wouldn't put up with it. Luckily, she was in a position that she could alarm the police without any fear of being arrested herself.

The point Maher was making was that ONLY sex scandals get any attention in the media, and all the other shit politicians pull gets by almost unnoticed. But if you want to bury that point with an anti-prostitution crusade and belittle and denigrate women by calling them names like "semen receptables"... you ahead, the floor is yours...

our Secret Service personnel should fucking BEHAVE in a civil manner while TDY for business and that does NOT include PAYING WOMEON TO FUCK THEM. It is DISGUSTING and a DISGRACE.

Like wives and girlfriends? Could there be a more pearl-clutching description of sex? Could there be a more demeaning way to refer to a sex worker?

I get that your disgusting terminology is in the noble service of liberation but there isn't going to be any of that. Not ever.

What you are ACTUALLY doing is devaluing the one commodity women have always had available to market.

There is NO excuse for calling ANY woman a "semen receptacle." Except, of course, bigotry.

And what bloody difference does the statistic make? Are you only counting streetwalkers? Or child brides sold by their parents? Or...?

on sex workers. They pretend to care for them, but all they're really interested in is flaunting their own supposed moral superiority. The sex workers themselves are an after-thought. They look down on them; they don't respect them. At the end of the day, I think men have more respect for sex workers than the women who accuse them of lacking any respect.

Oh, and I want to warn you that your post may get hidden, because somebody on DU decided that 'pearl-clutching' is now somehow suddenly a homophobic slur, so maybe somebody alerted on it.
