"Thanks, Obama!”: POTUS reads mean tweets about himself on “Jimmy Kimmel”

During President Barack Obama’s truly bizarre appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday Night — which pivoted from topics like Ferguson to Kanye West to Hillary’s emails — the leader of the free world proved he wasn’t above a good ol’ #meantweets segment.

“From time to time, we give celebrities a chance to read some of the mean things people tweet about them, and tonight, we extended that same courtesy to our commander in chief,” Kimmel said, before passing the baton that celebs like Lena Dunham and Chris Pratt have previously plucked.

Among the mean tweets, Obama read aloud: “Obama’s hair is looking grayer these days. Can’t imagine why since he doesn’t seem to be one bit worried about all that’s going on.”

Of course, some viewers weren’t thrilled about the appearance and questioned the president’s priorities:

Wait, so Obama couldn't make it to #Ferguson MO to calm down the situation but could make it to @jimmykimmel in Hollywood tonight? #tcot

According to Variety, Obama is “the first sitting president to make an in-studio guest appearance on a late-night talk show.” Since 2009, he’s hit up all the major late-night programs: “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” “The Colbert Report” and the “Late Show with David Letterman.”

I'm sure that Obama must get more mean tweets, not from our foreign enemies, but from fellow American citizens, than just about any other person on earth. You mentioned vile; to this list, I might also add the adjectives disturbing, vicious, malicious, vitriolic, bigoted, threatening, dehumanizing, in addition to all the tamer negative adjectives that are out there. I'm sure that Obama must receive a whole bunch of tweets that are so malicious and disturbing that he has vowed that they will never see the light of day.

That we have so many fellow Americans who are either so dumb and "moranic", or so blinded by bigotry or conservative ideology that they can't see his better qualities. I'm sure that Obama knows that if he didn't respond to their attacks with tolerance and a good sense of humor, that he would not set a good example, and just be drawn into their moranic morass. That would be, as Gandhi said, "an eye for an eye, making the whole world blind".
