2. I will never understand why anyone smokes, given that the harm smoking does

has been well documented for over fifty years. I also don't get tanning beds. The damage tanning does to skin, even if there weren't a clear risk of skin cancer, should be obvious to anyone who has seen anyone over the age of forty who tans a lot.

With cigarettes, social disapproval has had a huge affect, not so with tanning.

added on edit: For those who don't watch the clip, I bring up cigarettes because they're brought up in the clip.

3. Well it would be very hard to regulate and for some with skin conditions like psoriasis

both natural and synthetic sunlight can be helpful, in small amounts. I would say the majority of people who use tanning beds are under the age of 30. Lots of young girls wanting that tan before spring break or for the prom. It's not until they're in their 40's do they begin to realize the damage they have done. I know very well myself having had at least 10 places removed; basal cell carcinoma. I never used a tanning bed, ever. But I did work at a neighborhood pool many summers as a young teen. There weren't many, if any, products with sunscreens with high SPFs back then. Zinc oxide. Today we know how dangerous it is and should really cover up before going out .. and never go to the beach till after 4 pm. Yeah, like anyone is going to listen. There are a lot of products out there now that can give you that healthy glow with high SPFs. There is no reason to go and cook in a rotisserie. But then people are ignorant. Why else would we have a majority Republican House and Senate?

4. Only if the provider didn't offer warnings in advance, so the consumer can make an INFORMED decision

Tanning beds should come with health warnings like alcohol and tobacco.

5. No they should not

By now, people should know the damage they can cause. Just in case, they should only be made illegal if there is no warning label (posted earlier). I do know that one tanning place near my home makes you sign a consent forms and if you are under 18 the potential client has to gave parental consent. If this does not flue someone in to the dangers of tanning beds, they are oblivious to everything. Besides, how many products are in our grocery stores that have been shown to be harmful yet people still buy them for their family to consume? There are bigger things to worry about. At least this one comes with plenty of warnings so people know what they are risking.
