Fox News host Bill O'Reilly on Thursday brought on conservative pundit Ann Coulter to lament the lack of leadership by Christians in defending the Indiana religious freedom law altered by lawmakers on Thursday.
The Fox host opened "The O'Reilly Factor" by discussing the "war on Christianity." He mentioned the al-Shabab attack targeting Christians an a college on Kenya on Thursday, and then noted the "verbal attacks" on Christians in the United States.
Coulter told O'Reilly to focus on the attacks on Christians in the U.S. when she joined him on the show.
"I wouldnt put so much stress on whats happening in other countries," she said. "The rest of the world is a cesspool of violence and atrocities. This is the most consequential nation on earth."

(2,066 posts)It was hard for me to sit through this BS, but I made it. It's amazing what a total disconnect there is on the right wing from the basic realities of our constitution and our system of government. The source of all our freedoms is NOT Christianity, NOR any other religion, but it IS the separation of church and state. When our nation was founded, the separation clause was put in there precisely to avoid the kinds of Christian religious wars that had so plagued Europe for the previous three centuries. These so-called political pundits on the right need to go back and take ten years of remedial high school civics and US government classes!
Bill O' and Ann do not even have the rudimentary political common sense to realize that you CAN'T have any guarantees of freedom UNLESS you protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority. And this is especially true in the domain of religion and personal beliefs. Majority rule is not majority tyranny, but it easily can be without constitutional safeguards like the separation of church and state.
The Christian right whines that it is constantly persecuted when it is the one that persecutes and bullies other minority religions, either politically, or by seeking to convert them to Christianity by duplicitous and deceptive means. What Bill and Ann are calling "courage" is actually arrogance and insensitivity to the beliefs and convictions of others.
If you want to find a religion that is really persecuted in this country, you don't need to look that far, or that hard - it's Islam, which Christianity calls a satanic or false religion. Colin Powell hit the nail on the head before the '08 elections when he responded to accusations of Obama being a Muslim by saying that even if he WERE a Muslim, that should not make any difference.
A presidential candidate should be judged not by the color of his skin, nor by his religious affiliation or beliefs, but by the content of his character, as well as his basic intelligence, competence and ability to govern - standards which put our current president head and shoulders above his so-called "Christian" predecessor, who committed the most stupid and heinous acts while in office.

(7,875 posts)Is he blind? Are they just not radical enough? Do they need to start blowing up mosques and abortion clinics before he and Skeletanne will be satisfies? I mean more mosques and abortion clinics than they are now?
And of course there is a great deal of projection going on here; Just because Christianity (At least Billo and Skeletanne's version of it) requires everyone to conform to their values, they believe the same of the "Gay Agenda". I think most gay people would be satisfied with not having to take a lot of shit from judgemental Christians.

(5,106 posts)Actually, I guess they ARE for all too many who call themselves "Christians" these days. Ann is SO wrong in her opening argument that it would be laughable---if so many didn't believe her misconceptions about our founding fathers. Would love to see the ghost of Jefferson come back to debate her. Better yet: Ben Franklin!
