So You're About To Become A Minority

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, white people have another 30 years to enjoy being America's majority race. But come 2045, the white population will make up less than 50 percent of the American population for the first time ever.

In many states Latino/a Americans are the majority of students entering first grade.

That shows what the future holds so we all better learn how to get along.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Hispanic women in the United States, who have generally had the highest fertility rates in the country, are choosing to have fewer children. Both immigrant and native-born Latinas had steeper birthrate declines from 2007 to 2010 than other groups, including non-Hispanic whites, blacks and Asians, a drop some demographers and sociologists attribute to changes in the views of many Hispanic women about motherhood.

As a result, in 2011, the American birthrate hit a record low, with 63 births per 1,000 women ages 15 to 44, led by the decline in births to immigrant women. The national birthrate is now about half what it was during the baby boom years, when it peaked in 1957 at 122.7 births per 1,000 women of childbearing age.

The decline in birthrates was steepest among Mexican-American women and women who immigrated from Mexico, at 25.7 percent. This has reversed a trend in which immigrant mothers accounted for a rising share of births in the United States, according to a recent report by the Pew Research Center. In 2010, birthrates among all Hispanics reached their lowest level in 20 years, the center found.

As I've said, I'll believe it when I see it. I think the White race will remain the majority in the United States. Most minorities are choosing higher education and career over motherhood.

Full disclosure: I'm Asian-American, the minority among minorities.

The demographics of the country are changing fast so we all better get used to it.

In 30 years we'll all be minorities.

to obstruct progress like they do now in state and national legislative bodies.

They'll be a much smaller percentage of the electorate and their gerrymandering will be out of the window as there will be more POCs/dems to do the redistricting as the every-ten-year censuses will reflect the new demographic shifts.

In the 2014 election a million more people voted Democratic than repug but because of their 2010 census gerrymandering scam under the now disgraced Tom Delay still being in effect, they won more house and senate seats.

That won't hold up once the demographic shifts start being reflected in census results and dems control the redistricting.

Well, ok, believe it if you wish. But I have heard this record at least a couple times in my life so far, and usually it is played by people who turn out to be not very good at predicting the future. To their extreme displeasure.

Otoh, they are great at mixing drinks. Their favorite is kool aid.

Are you denying that the demographics of the country are changing as we speak?

In several states whites are already a minority in students entering first grade.

Those first-graders grow up to be voters in 15 years.

Do the math and stop with the debbie-downer nonsense.

The country is changing. Having a black president is just the begining of the shift.

Deny it all you want but we're not going back to the 50s.

Get a clue and get used to being a minority if you're still around in 30 years.

heard it all before. I think you have the worldview of a horse with blinders. You also presume I am not a minority now. Must be tough gto live your life so wrong.

So thus, since you seem to think you know it all already, I will leave you to your better world which is coming, and will waste no more time with you.

won't last, and that I would agree with. I would also agree that you would be wrong less often if you wrote out the complete thought, but that's up to you.

We could easily slip, further, into a fascist state, or worse.

And you should take me up on it.

Severe income equality does not last as people will only stay down for so long.

It's repeated in history over and over.
