"Private Empire": Author Steve Coll on the State-Like Powers, Influence of Oil Giant ExxonMobil
JUAN GONZÁLEZ: We turn now to look at one of the largest and most powerful corporations in the country: ExxonMobil. In the hour it takes for this show to broadcast, ExxonMobil will earn almost $5 million in profit. Last week, the corporate giant reported that it had earned nine-and-a-half billion dollars in profits in the first three months of this year, or almost $104 million per day.
Earlier this week, ExxonMobil signed a contract with the Iraqi Drilling Company in Basra to drill 20 oil wells in one of worlds largest undeveloped fields with recoverable oil reserves. Iraq is expected to be the worlds biggest source of new oil supplies over the next few years after signing contracts for big development projects with major oil companies.

(1,253 posts)those sociopaths don't give a damn even for their own kids.
so, i think they made enough to justify the million deaths & the generations of suffering they left in their wake.
the costs are written off under "Incidentals", on their financials.

(4,982 posts)...that this is what he was after - OIL. bu$h was an oil man - with ties to big oil and he was just helping his friends in the 'biness to get their hands on some more oil - oil that they had been chomping at the bit to get control of for decades. And bu$h did this on the taxpayer's dime of course. And to add insult to injury, Exxon-Mobil doesn't pay a DIME of taxes on their humongous profits, either. We taxpayers get to pay their taxes for them, on top of paying for the Iraq "war" for them, too. Else, the expense of both of these is simply added to the national debt.
How convenient.

(7,875 posts)I knew I wasn't the only one. But there sure weren't many of us in those days. Personally I knew (or at least I was sure) Bush would find a reason to start another war with Iraq during his first week in office when he stepped up the bombing in the Southern no-fly zone. 9/11 sealed the deal.

(8,219 posts)how the only people to NOT profit from 9/11 are the Muslims, the supposed perpetrators, and the only ones to profit handsomely are the multi-nationals like Exxon and others who can now rape the ME of all its natural resources.
Oh, and that event sure made Cheney's asbestos issue go away. All coincidence of course. Yep.
For any Freepers still lurking here, who think Iraq's oil will benefit ordinary American citizens, the joke's on you. Ha hahaha. Exxon/Mobil doesn't give a rat's-ass about America.
Every time I see a picture of that worthless waste of oxygen in your picture (note the 666 on his forehead) I wish I believed in Hell.

(115,103 posts)that image seems insensitive to me. I can't imagine an actual image of a similar situation being used in a humorous way, either.
I'd like to suggest that you consider removing it, please.

(7,875 posts)There's nothing funny about the way Bush and his billionaire buddies exploited the deaths of nearly 3000 Americans and billions of dollars in property damage (not to mention the disastrous health effects on the first responders) to justify an unnecessary war which has wasted the lives of thousands more Americans, tens of thousands of Iraqis and hundreds of billions of dollars we couldn't afford to spend. That is what this image represents.
If anyone else thinks I'm making a joke here, please say so.

(7,875 posts)But I hope nobody thinks it's funny.
On Edit:
I was actually a lot angrier at Bush when I made it than I am today. (Time heals all wounds?) I actually didn't realize that I'd left the version with the 666 on his head on my Photobucket account. That I think I'm going to change...
