(5,191 posts)We all should work longer hours because we have all have maids, cooks, drivers, and tutors for our kids, just like the Bush family, right? They always said Jeb was the "smart one." Yeah; not so sure about that!

(56,828 posts)tens of millions of dollars in family money accumulated over generations and connections to the highest level people in both government and private industry.
(Always remember when W relaxed laws in Texas regarding levels of arsenic in the water, while spending tens of thousands to get some state of the art water filtration system installed on his ranch in Crawford. I mean, everybody else can do that, too, right?)

(17,204 posts)... is that worker productivity is already off the charts in this country, and yet he wants to squeeze even more blood out of the turnip. (We'll ignore, for the nonce, the fact that he has probably never really worked in his life)
There is a desire to push the test-to-destruction of the human as far as possible. Well, naturally, that's what test-to-destruction means.

(5,435 posts)I don't know about anybody else, but i ~can't~ be any more productive than i am...
55+ hrs/week at work
+
12+ hrs/week commuting to the job [public trans]
+
25+ hrs/week for household chores (cooking, cleaning, etc...)
=
When the fuck do i have ~TIME~ to 'work more' or 'be more productive'?!?!?

(4,253 posts)We all take our vacations (called holidays up here.) And most companies start their employees with 3 weeks. I left my last job before retiring after 18 years with 6 weeks vacation. We had full benefits, sick days , bonuses, paid overtime at time and half and I went on a few company paid trips.
All my friends who worked would think it crazy not to take their vacation days.
Not to mention 10 or 11 statuary paid holidays.

(34,582 posts)I am finally accruing 3 weeks a year. At 10 I will get four. Most American companies are not so "generous"

(4,253 posts)Dress properly according to the weather. Many people up here Love winter. I don't but I have alternative things I do. Read, internet, social clubs, paint, movies, tv . There can be a peacefulness in winter. The quiet of the snow.
I wear long underwear too. LOL.
And I vacation in the winters going south. Mexico, Florida, cruises and lately Cuba. which is the best. I would rather have a week of Cuba than a month in Florida. I know this because 2015 I did Florida for a month.... I love Beall's to shop but this past visit just was not as good as others.

We can have 800 military bases around the world. I think many of these bases have their own golf courses.

(1,008 posts)First, here's an article from 2013, in the NYT, highlighting what economists and unions have been saying for years. US productivity isn't the problem. The wage gains of productivity are not 'trickling down' to the people that actually do the work.

(21,925 posts)Now he spends his days painting pictures of himself in the bathroom. Before he became President/ he did nothing at Harken Energy before the company went under. He did nothing when he had a cushy job with the Texas Rangers. And he was cut loose from the Carlyle Group Board of Directors where all he did was show up from time to time to tell dirty jokes.

(12,977 posts)Not only has average US economic growth over the past 50 years has been less that that per year, but at this point it would be environmentally unsustainable. It would devastate the planet. So Jeb shouldn't get a pass on the silly first part of his statement just because of the abysmally stupid second part.

(5,400 posts)His spin doctors can try to massage his message but I see it as a true "gaffe".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_gaffe#Kinsley_gaffe
A Kinsley gaffe occurs when a political gaffe reveals some truth that a politician did not intend to admit.[7][8] The term comes from journalist Michael Kinsley, who said, "A gaffe is when a politician tells the truth some obvious truth he isn't supposed to say."
Like the elites in Animal Farm, Bush wants the 99% to work harder.
I do believe that his campaign has written down somewhere a message that would have gone over much better. It would have talk of increased employment opportunities. But that message ran through the filter in Bush's mind. It's the kind of filter that an establishment politician builds up in his head after decades of listening to, and do the bidding of, the 1%.
And their message is that the beatings will continue until morale improves.

I see now that for Bush quotes we need to get familiar with the header "NTO", and use it, so we know they are real. His quotes are like self parody.
"NTO" = Not The Onion

I think The Onion crew would be patting each other on the back if they'd made up those quotes.
Edit: lol, joke's on me, the article was onionesque. lol, and very well done!

(12,213 posts)I'm sure most of you have seen this, but now J Bush is back tracking, saying he was misquoted. He really meant the country has too many part time jobs, and not enough full time jobs.

A socialist once got 3% of the national vote - while he was in prison.
The "You don't work hard enough" campaign of the loser mentioned in the OP could actually do worse than that.

The rules are the same, regardless of party affiliation:
Put your life on hold (work your butt off) until you retire (or die) first. Save, spend, save, spend, save, spend. Hope your 401k is still intact when that day finally comes.

(561 posts)....or the Presidency. He is willfully walking into the Reid-Angle trap, which is that you allow yourself to say really stupid things to your Right Wing Nut base that are bound to be replayed in the general election.
In the 2012 general election disabled Nevada veterans heard Sharon Angle say "The VA needs to be privatized" which is republi-speak for "get rid of" and she lost in a landslide.
Keep up the good work Jeb, blowing the GOP nomination may be the smartest thing you've done in your life...
