Saw the Orchestra (without the London Philharmonic) in '72 in a backroom bar space in a small town outside NYC. Just them and about 20 of us mere mortals. Sat ten feet from the Mahavishnu, 11 from Billy Cobham and 12 from Charlie Haden - all decked out in white and radiant.

Never heard Goodbye Pork Pie Hat done better.

I see now that Zappa helped coax Jean Luc Ponty to come to the USA.

I guess that was the night. Huh, I don't remember Leo Kotke, maybe we got there late. Just kids, but we liked The MO.

Saw Gentle Giant and Focus at the Academy of Music in Nov. of '74. Another great full double-bill.

There was so much excellent live music, and practically anyone could afford to see it back in those crazy daze of crystal haze. I just don't know how, or quite remember, how we managed to get home in one piece. Had something to do with the milk train on the New Haven Railroad and a flying lesson first-thing the next morning. Interesting 24 hours.
