The Elk was long considered the same species as the European Red Deer, but recent DNA studies have indicated they are at least two separate sub species, if not two different species.

When I first watched the video, I did not think it was a North American Deer, it is to large:

White Tail deer, bucks, tend to be under 150 pounds, through 400 plus bucks have been reported.

Mule deer are a little bit heaver, about 200 pounds on average:

European Red Deer can be 350 pound pus, twice the size as White Tails and Mule Tails, but are NOT native to the US or Eastern Asia:

Now the White tail can have some red hair in its fur in the spring, but it is gone by the fall and hunting season. This deer clearly has some red fur. It does NOT left up its tail as White Tails tend to do when endangers (The white tail it is a warning to other deer danger is near).

But it's not an elk doing the ass kicking. An elk would be using it's antlers which are absolutely huge! (6-7 feet long or more and almost as wide). Elk are larger than horses.

Not sure what type of deer this is but it may be a blacktail which is a subspecies of mule deer. The antlers look mule deer-ish to me.

Mule Tail and White Tail deer can interbreed and produce healthy off spring, but the off spring do NOT to the sudden sprints of the white tail ancestors, nor the "slotting" of Mule tails, but a combination of the two, that defeats each method of avoiding predators and thus became easy victims to wolves coyotes, mountain lions and bears.

I bring the Mule Tail - White Tail mix to show that just because American Elk is close to European Red Deer, they may act differently, My first opinion was European Red Deer not American Elk, but that was in part determined by the original posters use of the term "Deer" and that the film is in French. Red Deer exists in the US, but is considered "cattle" not a game animal by Game Commissions, thus regulated by State and Federal Agricultural Departments NOT Game Commissions and this includes Canned Hunts.
