Last week marked one year since Michael Brown was gunned down by a trigger happy police officer on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri. This incident put police brutality in the spotlight, but unfortunately, the problem has only grown worse in the last year.

If the camera is off during a shooting, assault or death--immediate suspension without pay throughtout the investigation and trial.
Like someone who refuses a breathalizer gets an immediate suspension of their license.

(1,727 posts)punishing police misconduct. Officers who are caught disabling recording equipment or lying in official statements need to be severely punished. There also needs to be some type of independent prosecutorial body set up to deal with police misconduct that rises to the level of criminality. Many DA's offices are clearly either unwilling or unable to go after bad cops the same way that they do civilians due to the close proximity in which they are required to work with the police to make cases.

We need to change our police culture.
