I hire a young man to help out around the farm part time and he does not know what he is going to feed his family from day to day. I try to give them our excess produce and pay him $10 an hour. Those extreme poverty conditions are coming back.

I wish we had another FDR.

Deregulate the banks. Eliminate the safety nets.

The free market believers want you to believe that the elimination of regulations would lead to a Nirvana and the "invisible hand" of the free market will make and keep everything in its proper place.

Whenever I hear that crock of crap (and I've been on panel discussions against economists and the like) I ask them if such a system is so perfect, why did we have the Great Depression? If less regulation on banks and investments is so good, why did the economy crash and stay in a depression for over a decade?

I have yet to hear any of them give a coherent response. They just pull catch phrases from their bag and morph them into some type of an answer that doesn't address the question.
