watching overpaid physical freaks subject themselves to the rigors and dangers of games that mean NOTHING when all's said and done. Couldn't you find something CONSTRUCTIVE to do with that couple of hours besides watch OTHERS excel???

The American obsession with sports minutiae has always driven me nuts. I can hardly stand the local talk radio station (KYW 1060), where sports factoids are routinely given more time than politics, the environment, economics, or science.

Seriously, listeners: Are you adults or children? You need to be spoon-fed stories about games all day long and don't have the attention span for subjects that actually matter and have consequences? Arrgh.

as did "The Games" in the Roman era. Take the populations mind off of how they were living.

"And the leading scorer on the team is . . . well, no one has ever scored in soccer, so no team has a leading scorer. However, many players will kick the ball during the game. We don't keep any count of that, though. Some will bonk the ball with their heads, many times on purpose. But again, we don't keep any count of that. Here are some numbers we can give the viewers, however, the ages of the players. No? No one cares? Okay, well let's enjoy the hours of pointless action then."
