How is it possible for Republicans to be falling apart internally yet still successful when it comes to winning elections? A lethal mix of gerrymandering, voter suppression, and fear manipulation is what keeps these creeps in power.
Ring of Fires Farron Cousins discusses this.

(2,493 posts)Republicans complain about vote rigging and voter fraud. And it seems that whenever a Republican wins a close race we complain about vote rigging. The simple fact of the matter is that there are a lot of people in the United States who vote Republican for any host of reasons, including homophobia or racism but also including a belief that Republicans are better for the voters' financial well-being or a belief in lower taxes and less centralized government.

(5,818 posts)has reached all-time highs. The total spent in the last Presidential election across all media exceeded $6 billion, and it has been estimated that negative ad spending outweighs positive ad spending 10 to one.
The objective of negative ad spending is to depress your opposition's voter turnout. It would be much more difficult to convince Democrats to vote for a Republican than to slander candidates like Hillary thousands of times and lead to millions of Democratic voters staying home.
Causing one voter to stay home has a net positive ballot impact of +1 for the opposition. While getting a voter to switch from one party to another has a net ballot impact of +2, half a loaf is much better than none. And voter turnout is trending down, in part because of negative ads, in part because of "Voter ID" and other voter suppression, and in part for other reasons.

(4,308 posts)Republicans are bought and paid for by the top .01 % to enact policies that lower taxes and decrease regulations on the wealthy, especially the top .01% and especially those whose wealth comes mostly from the returns on capital. This has the effect of forcing the rest of us to pay more taxes for necessary expenditures to keep the country going. Plus, Republicans DO NOT favor small government. They want BIG BIG government that strictly controls the private lives of everybody ELSE and protects every tiny bit of the property of the wealthy.
