Wear a green ribbon for the climate

Here I sat, watching the Paris climate summit go by and feeling helpless as it started to look like one more useless, inconclusive worldwide meeting on this most-important issue. James Hansen, climate scientist, has said the meeting is “a total fraud.” Hansen’s part starts at about 29:30.

Then I heard about the campaign to wear green ribbons to support real action at the climate summit.

My reaction when I heard about the campaign was, “What a nice way to make myself feel better while not doing anything.” But is it? The climate summit, on which depends the future of the human race on this planet, is way underreported; many people (the ones I meet, anyway) have no clue that it’s even happening. The more people become aware of the issue, the more pressure will be on governments around the world to do what we need: commit to a plan that will work to limit emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gases to preserve our coastal areas from going under water and our farms from becoming too hot to grow crops.

Here are suggestions for who to do the green ribbon thing: how to fold the ribbon, how to explain what you’re up to, etc.

Spreading the word about the climate crisis is something real you can do for the future of earth’s inhabitants.

... in a long time, I believe that there's some hope for mitigating climate change. The Paris conference didn't come up with sufficient solutions but the debate is no longer between is is or is it not real. Rather, it's between is this program for change better than alternatives. The latter debate is, at least, rational and can be won for the most part.

trying to keep the debate at square 1, is there climate change and if so is it caused by people.

We've no time to lose in getting to the next steps.

Solar, Wind and battery technologies keep getting better day by day, getting nearer to negating any of fossil fuels economic advantages. It's very close to parity right now, may take another decade or two or three but it will arrive with or without government help. It may be beyond these summits to accomplish much in trying to wheen everyone off of coal and the like. There is a lot of incentives on a lot of people to keep things as they are - encouraging fossil fuel use - though it would be great if I could be proved wrong. Perhaps more agreement could be had between the global community into dramatically increasing funding levels of research so as to hasten the day of cheaper alternative energy.

Yes, renewables keep getting more economically feasible.

I hope the market does its thing quickly enough to save us.
