We don't know what we will find out from it.

The TMT is so much bigger than any other optical telescope, that we will be into uncharted territory. That is where science loves to tread, to learn new things.

The TMT will likely be able to make spectrographic measurements of atmospheres of exoplanets. It could find extraterrestrial life in a distant star system. (Hint: they are all distant .)

And there is no place on the planet better suited for such an instrument than the Maunakea summit. Nothing else comes close. That is why the observatory grounds were set aside there in the first place.

The protesters are ignorant buffoons who have no argument, and no case. Plus, they are in no way harmed by the observatory's existence given that it is only a small part of the summit of the largest fucking mountain on the planet. There is a lot more summit for worship, sacrifices, altitude sickness, etc. than there is observatory.

No harm. No case.

Build the TMT. If protesters block the way, throw them in jail.

It's the single best spot in the entire northern hemisphere for telescopes. It's a huge mountain and the telescopes are hurting no one – assholes.

...which traversed and settled the damned Pacific Ocean, island by island, in fucking canoes! They were able to do that because they learned how to navigate by the fucking stars!

I have zero sympathy for these few idiots protesting the TMT. They will lose this case, because they have absolutely no case -- there is zero harm here.

And when the permit is inevitably reinstated, any protesters blocking the way should be immediately arrested.

Build the TMT.
