(9,350 posts)Even thought Bernie Sanders won the online poll, he is not the person of the year. The person of the year is supposed to be the person, thing, or group that most impacted the world. I think ISIS should be the person of the year in that they had the most impact on the world. Whether people like them or not they completely changed the focus of the world and may have even changed events. Would Paris have happened without ISIS? I think if Bernie Sanders can win the Democratic nomination and win the 2016 election, then he should be the Time Person of the Year for 2016.

He didn't even make the top eight. None of the Democrats did.
But hey, Trump made it--so did Vlad Putin and Caitlyn Jenner!

The TIME "award" is not always an award. If the guy from ISIS gets it, it won't be because he's a nice dude. If Trump gets it, it will be because his assholishness was so profound that it could not go unnoticed.
Hitler got that prize, too. It's just a "Wow, What a NEWSMAKER" award. Nothing more.

(34,857 posts)Angela Merkel. Really. Has Sanders sone anything to warrant POY? Clinton, either? They've not won anything. They've not changed any major policy.
Sanders will be POY if he wins the presidency, as every elected president has been since Clinton won in 1992.
