(23,720 posts)So what is it that you find to be clickbait in this article? The source?
Because the manufactured water problem in Flint Michigan is very real and very serious. It was unfortunate that the video left so much out of the story and I can only hope that the justice department looks into the Governors actions. THEY ARE CRIMINAL and he deserves to go to prison for what he and his cronies have done. If you believe this is not big deal and disagree and support Governor Rick Snyder, then I invite you to share a glass of water from the Flint river with me. Cause I can arrange to send you and your children some if you like?

(2,620 posts)draw you in. However, if you really want to understand the water problem in Flint - without the hyperbole of this video, this article provides a more in-depth explanation:

(12,882 posts)So - wha??? You were hoping for more detailed information as to the effects of lead poisoning? You wanted first-hand accounts from folks afflicted? Governor Snyder gets a bum rap here - when he's really a stand-up sorta guy? The simple comment - "Clickbait" was more clickbait than the OP.

You're going to have to show me evidence of "intent" - or at the least willful negligence - before I jump on the "Snyder wants to poison children" bandwagon...

(23,720 posts)There was nothing untrue said, there was nothing exaggerated. In fact, I didn't think the video went far enough. I have a sister that lives in Flint and she has grand children who have ingested that poisoned water when they've gone to stay with her. One child is 5 and already has behavioral problems. THESE CHILDREN HAVE KNOWINGLY BEEN POISONED BY STATE OFFICIALS
People don't know half the story. If this hadn't gone public this water was going to be used in other communities. Upscale, well to-do communities. If that had happened I'd bet someone would be taking what has occurred more seriously.
Now if your objection is merely the source, you are free to ignore it. However I feel it should be left for the viewer to decide whether something is "clickbait" or not and doesn't need to be announced by those who don't approve. Hell, by the definition you pointed out to me- this is not "clickbait" at all- as the definition said nothing in regards to source used.
Personally I don't care how a message gets out as long as it's true. If you don't want to hear the message because you don't like the messenger then shame on you.

(23,720 posts)Because State officials insisted the water was safe to drink after it was proved lead levels were high and it was not potable.
The Governor's appointed city manager and the State of Michigan sold off Flint's portion of the Detroit water pipeline so they can't even switch back to Detroit City water. Hence the distribution of bottled water in the city.
I was talking about water bills with a prominent real estate agent in my area recently about how expensive the sewer portion of our water bills are. She told me that where she lived her last water bill was 1600.00 and that her community- Commerce Township Michigan was thinking about contracting with Flint to supply their water because Detroit's water was so high. She was astounded when I told her that Flint's water supply was poisoning the area's children with high levels of lead.
In my opinion the Governor and his city manager's actions are beyond incompetence and negligence. They are criminal and all involved knowingly pushed poisoned water on the citizens of Flint and they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I can't get out of a speeding ticket by claiming ignorance to the set speed limit. They should not be able to claim incompetence and ignorance when poisoning residents of he State of Michigan.

(45,984 posts)I clicked on the piece not because of the title but because it was Thom Hartmann's take on the situation in Flint. He's not the first person in the last week to call it "poisoning." If anything is over-the-top it was it is Mr. Hartmann's suggestion that the children of Flint were being targeted to become victims lead poisoning when in fact their parents had to drink that stuff, too.
A better example of clickbait I see hear is your own introduction to the Atlantic's article on clickbait, which I expected from that introduction to explain why Mr. Hartmann's piece was clickbait. It didn't. It defined clickbait very well, but applying the definition to Mr. Hartmann's piece in the OP and concluding that it is clickbait is a different matter.
You may think that Mr. Hartmann's critique of the Michigan emergency manager statute is just Hartmann being an alarmist, but I think the emergency manager statute is something to be alarmed about for the reasons Hartmann laid out and for some others he didn't. It is a piece of bad legislation that is fundamentally and attack on the sovereignty of voters to elect officials in their local community and, after its passage, was repealed by the voters, only to be passed again by the corrupt Republican legislature that included an appropriation for the bill that, under Michigan law, shields the law from the referendum process. The process by which this legislation became law and the intent of the law itself is nothing less than an assault on the democratic process itself with the purpose of enhancing yet another anti-democratic principle, the privatization of public assets.

(2,620 posts)after watching Hartmann's video, I felt I knew even less about the actual cause of the problem. It did prompt me however to dig into the issue. I found this article helpful too:

And I reject your BS excuse of "one little mistake". Please, there is nothing wrong with expecting our side to keep it clean and above board.
And Personally, it's getting more than a bit old --- along with the REPEATED postings from TYT Clickbait.

(7,006 posts)Thom Hartmann is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan. In other words, a Michigander. Even if he does not live here now, he would likely have connections to folks who do.
The issue with Flint's Water Crisis has been going on for nearly THREE YEARS. Also, the last year --2015, the Toxic Water Crisis in Flint was FULLY AVAILABLE to ANYONE that desired to GOOGLE the information with Michigan's ACLU, Michigan Radio/NPR, Metro Times Detroit, Local Clean Water Activists Groups like Water Your Fighting For, We The People of Detroit, Detroit Water Brigade, Occupy Detroit/Flint/Ann Arbor, and State-Level Politics Bloggers like Independent Underground News & Talk, Flint Water Scandal and more.
Yet, Thom along with Rachel (Maddow) and the others REFUSED to give this tragic story a bit of actual coverage until the article in early December in the Washington Post. No offense, but that s**t was so late as hell to the "party" -- so to speak. Kids, Adults, Elders were being LEAD POISONED all of this time (again nearly 3 years) and despite Flint Residents many pleas, no national media outlet would listen until AFTER the Virginia Tech Water Study was completed in July --- and even then until the Washington Post Article in December.
So excuse us if we are a bit bitter for Thom, the Ring of Fire Crew, The Young Turks, Rachel Maddow and the rest of so-called "Progressive" Media jumping on the Flint Water Crisis as if it is "new news" when its not. It's OLD NEWS that deserved NEW NEWS attention at the beginning of LAST YEAR but definitely if nothing else, after the Virginia Tech Study of Flint's water in July.
Lastly, we did not hold up any moss for our local Mainstream Media either and their lack of attention to this story for years on end -- as evident in this Op/Ed article below.
Open Letter to Michigan's Mainstream Media in '16 - Finally Tell The Truth About Rick Snyder
"First, Thank You MLive's Editorial Board.
Considering MLive endorsed Snyder for Governor, not just once but twice -- it must be shocking for this resource to see Rick Snyder for the incompetent liar he his.
Michigan's Mainstream Media share much of the blame for Snyder being elected in this state -- in the first place.
In retrospect, it appears the Media was either Brought Off or Backdoor Bargained into promoting the "One Tough Nerd" Mockery.
Likewise, our Michigan Media widely touted Snyder's undemocratic Emergency Manager legislation as "best way" to repair the financial stress it was claimed some Michigan school districts, cities, townships, villages and counties were supposedly under. Nearly five years post Emergency Manager Laws 1.0 and 2.0- are we as a State any better than when Snyder started.
The answer is no, not at all.
In fact Flint, Michigan is much, much worse.
