(At Your Leisure) Steven is in Iron County explaining what the new Western Freedom Festival is all about. This will be a great way to teach your family about the freedoms that we enjoy on public lands and what we need to do to keep them.

Several Utah elected officials have joined forces to organize an event to honor, pay respect, and pledge continued support to preserve western culture, lifestyle, heritage, family values and freedom.
The western freedom festival will feature a full day of educational learning opportunities with conference tracks including public lands, federal advantages & failures, and states rights. The event also includes educational outreach opportunities for elementary school students through a hope of america essay contest. The event will conclude with a live concert by country music star Darryl Worley.
The western freedom festival is intended to celebrate our heritage and culture and bring awareness to the efforts that are negatively impacting those cultures, traditions, and lifestyles. Event organizers believe western culture and tradition is under assault and that conservative family values, faith, hard work and entrepreneur-ism is being displaced by negativity toward these values. The event organizers feel that, honest hard working Americans are being put out of business, targeted and discriminated against and entire industries dependent upon natural resources are being destroyed while wealth building jobs continue to be outsourced to foreign nations. The western freedom festival is an attempt to educate the world about the negative impact policies are having on the health, safety and welfare of citizens in the west.
Utah congressman Chris Stewart said it best the federal government has been a lousy landlord for western states. It is time to let the world see and understand what is happening to the good people of the west.
Garfield county commissioner Leland Pollock states: The western freedom festival is a response to all of the abuse western rural communities have been dealing with for years. We know we have solid cultural values, however we are constantly under attack by special interest groups, the federal government and many other forces that are constantly trying to change our lives. The land is our life-blood, we are surrounded by an ocean of public land yet the freedom to use that land is vanishing. One would never think our religious freedoms would be under attack, yet we all know what has happened regarding christian values. This is not a one night celebration, this is our chance to stand on the national stage in front of the national news and make a difference.
Iron county commissioner David Miller states This is an opportunity to celebrate who we are, what we stand for, and what we are willing to do going forward to stop abuse of our citizens health, safety and welfare, these are the most patriotic people on the planet who would do anything to preserve their heritage and culture, it is our job as elected officials to protect and defend that.
Beaver county commissioner Mark Whitney stated We need to do everything possible to ensure our lifestyles, culture, values, and heritage are preserved for future generations, unfortunately kids today are forced to abandon much of that and relocated to the cities to survive.

Offshoring of jobs has absolutely nothing to do with laws to protect our land and ecology, which is what much of the industries dependent on natural resources want to exploit in this country.
Nope. Not buying it.
And yeah, the family values stuff belongs in Sudan or someplace else.

(80,708 posts)a more down-home version of those guys who believe they don't have to file tax returns.
I used to work in a video store, back in the days of video stores, that required a gov't issued ID and a credit card to rent. Those were the rules, right?
So this ginkus comes in early one Sunday morning wanting to rent Elmo in Grouchland or Ghost or some shit, and smacks this greasy dot matrix printed deal on the counter "this is mah drivers license". I'm all (hung over, no question) "no, it's not". He proceeds to launch into this extended fucking diatribe about the illegitimacy of the Federal Government and I have the right to create my own documentation and blah blah blah, sov'reeen cit'zen yadda yadda yadda.
I turned up the Grateful Dead and said "try blockbuster, then, man".
Basically, here's the bottom line: If you are in the United States of America, you're subject to the constitution, laws, and government of said United States of America. If you want to be a free sovereign whatever, get on the phone with Elon Musk and see if he can get you on the first Mars Colonial Transporter. There will be plenty of opportunity for anarchist freeholding on other planets.
Assuming you work out in advance who is going to supply you with your air.

(8,175 posts)I think she finally gave up the idea. It was partly because she was always struggling financially and felt it was unfair to have to pay taxes when she was having a hard time just existing. I guess I can kind of understand that. But we shouldn't be overtaxing our poor citizenry anyway. She also was a scientologist (talk about keeping her poor...they took most of her money) for awhile and gave that up too. I wonder if they had anything to do with her sovereign citizen ideas?
