In the last few days, Donald has been raising the issue of Cruzs eligibility to even run for president, claiming that he may actually be Canadian, and therefore not an American citizen. While it is true that Cruz was born in Canada to an American mother, he has always held dual citizenship until winning his U.S. Senate seat, at which point he renounced his Canadian citizenship.

That would have required reasonable thought.

(9,133 posts)Not only is it payback to make Ted, Teabaggers, and wanna-be Theocrats writhe over this issue, I think it is entirely fair to ask if Mrs. Eleanor Wilson Cruz a Canadian citizen at the time of Ted Cruz's birth.
And spare me comments about Mrs Cruz's American birth certificate. I know she was US-born. But what hasn't satisfactorily answered is if she had obtained Canadian citizenship at the time of Ted Cruz's birth in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

(2,382 posts)... otherwise Cruz would not have been eligible for dual citizenship.
I'm pretty sure that the SCOTUS ruled quite some time ago that "natural-born citizen" meant anyone born of at least one American-born parent, regardless of where the birth took place. Turd-brained birthers chose to overlook that fact when they were screeching for Obama's "long-form" birth certificate. Now that the same question is being asked about one of their own, I'm sure they will whine, "But that's different!"
Assholes.
