(250 posts)...couldn't even define the difference between communism, communism as practiced by Lenin or Stalin, or the Chinese. Let alone define what a socialist is.
And what amazes me is they don't think twice about buying communist made crap from China or supporting trade with communists. Or dictators, or facists.
And they call us ignorant.
Sheesh.

(5,364 posts)They know the labels only as slurs and have no idea of what the ideologies actually mean.

Amazes me too. While the "I got mine, the hell with you" attitude is the obvious root cause of that dichotomy, I've asked brought up this very dynamic with conservative friend of mine and his motivation was mostly to stick it to organized labor here in the US. What a twisted git.

(5,364 posts)I have to think, I mean really, some of them just have to know they're being had, but having so garishly painted themselves into corners, would rather fall than admit they made a mistake.
"Pride goeth before a fall" and all that.

(919 posts)That this guy is on, or knows someone who is on, a social program. Unemployment, Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, etc., etc. It reminds me of a clip showing the actor, Craig T. Nelson, said, Theyre not going to bail me out, Nelson said. Ive been on food stamps and welfare. Anybody help me out? No. No. They have no clue what social programs are. They just want to scream about them. These are people voting against their better welfare. Here's the article in full: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal/2011_07/the_craig_t_nelson_problem030622.php

(5,364 posts)Well, it's OK to laugh....
Back when my right-wing father was nearly insufferable to be around a few years after election day in '08, I made a jab about the tea-party hypocrisy as some of them said "keep government hands off my medicare". He completely missed the irony and took it at face value and chimed in vociferously: He didn't get it at all. This was Poe's Law before I even knew what the term meant.
